I am thinking of starting a music video TV show with my campus' student-run TV station. The twist is, I would like to show AMVs instead of normal music videos (of which the station has plenty of).
I was inspired by a music video on one of our filler tapes that someone at the station editted with a combination of live footage and Akira. Our production manager says that as long as we don't show the entire series or movie, the AMVs should be fine legally as long as we put up a shit-load of disclaimers (all copyrights are held by their respective owners, not us, etc.)
However, before I put in the official proposal, I wanted to see what kind of response I would get to the following question. I also intend to e-mail specific creators individually about this, unless of course they happen to answer here, but here is what I am wondering.
While I could use VirtualDub to size the videos up to the 720x480 broadcast aspect ratio, I have seen for myself that this can cause blurriness and general loss of video quality. So, my question is this: If I were to ask for one of your videos, who out there would be willing to snail mail me a CD, DVD, VCD, whatever, on which you have burned a copy of one or more of your music videos, sized at 720x480, and encoded in a format that won't make Premiere choke up, so we can dub it to a video tape? I figure, if you make the copy yourself, you will have the final say in quality of the video. I say snail mail because my Hotmail account won't hold more than 1 MB of info, my website only has 100MB of storage, and that's if I delete EVERYTHING currently on it. I am willing to meet up on AIM, or a Direct Connect hub, however, if that is preferable.
Right now, I just want to see what the response is, who would be willing to re-encode their videos in a workable format, or who wants me to just do what little I can to re-encode them (I will try to keep the quality as good as I can). Later, if the response is good, I will e-mail specific creators about their specific videos. If anyone would like to volunteer one or more of their videos, I'll give it a view and see if I want to show it (Note: No RealMedia files, please. RM does not want to work for me, it just freezes up my computer when I try to open a RM file).
Thanks in advance!!
