It's sad to think that I've made AMVs to two of those guys. blink and System. still though, they do have good songs one way or the other, problem is that everybody things so and everybody does the same damn idea over and over. This is why I checked the site before I did mine to make sure I did't do a concept that had allready been done.

What I like best about that list is how Dragonball Z is on there 3 times

Well, people make videos from what they like, usually without caring about what's been done (whether that's all right or the source of all evil depends on your opinion) - and errr, the definition of "mainstream" IS that it is most popular.

Uh, that made no sense. What I meant to say is: Lots and lots of people like the same music. AMVers, being a section of that public, follows generally the same trends. (Though it is skewed; you see more J-pop and less boybands, etc., in the AMV "public".)

As for me, I try. If I had an idea I loved to a commonly used band, I would do it - my main concern is the fit between idea, sound, and visual. Though so far, I think two of the bands I used had one video each when I got here (Erasure and Morcheeba) and the other had several, though mostly to the same series (Depeche Mode).

Uh, my point, such that it was, was that it basically shows that people's tastes are mainstream. But in the end I think what matters is the quality of the video's execution and concept, not what band they used.

Whew.

63 videos have not been made to music from Weird Al; 63 videos have been made to music attributed to Weird Al. There's a difference.

Just to check: Why didn't bands under two different variations get categorized as one...

For example you have 'Offspring' and then you have 'The Offspring' assuming these are the same group wouldn't it make more sense to tally those two results together and get the more accurate result...

It would make more sense that way, but you see, Phade has this thing called a "Life" and so doesn't have the time to police all the aliases in the database.

The sarcasm was a little unnecessary (I just saw the fact that the name was listed twice on the initial skim-through and this kind of bugged me, so I figured it couldn't hurt to bring it up)

Sarcasm is never unnecessary.

People make AMVs from footage and music that they like. I don't see what the big deal is.

Agreed. It is ultimately up to the creator to decide what works for them and what doesn't.

It is unfortunate that a flood of poorly-made music videos using a narrow set of music and animation choices has caused such a negative feeling amongst audiences and viewers. I've heard a lot of stories and witnessed crowds at contests groaning when the title card for Evangelion or Linkin Park video is displayed.

There are still good videos possible with such combinations; it is up to the skilled creators who are here to discover them and make them work.

(PS to EK: your new avatar is officially very creepy.) OMGWTF.
