But effort isn't everything. A good concept or some emotion put into your video will usually help. Being artistic and/or having a unique style can help too. Wait for inspiration to hit you. Don't just say "well, I guess this song is good enough". Look for a song until one just strikes you as being perfect. And even just a little bit of planning can help a lot so that you don't use scenes up too fast, or so you can solidify your concept before you start working.
Ideas are also a big factor. Ideas on how you're going to edit a certain line in the music, ideas on concepts, ideas on certain efffects (if you use them) and just ideas in general make a video much more interesting.
