I'd write opinions, if I got any on my vids. I've had about 175 downloads on this one video already, and I've gotten one opinion.

I generally don't write opinions anymore because the creators often got nasty if I didn't give them high enough scores, and if I said anything negative whatsoever that they didn't agree with.
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

I still write reviews. In fact I write one for any video I download. Unfortunately, I don't download videos as much as I'd like to, so thereby I don't write as many reviews either.

I don't participate in review exchanges anymore though, because it seems most people tend to want their reviews right away, whereas I take time in writing my reviews and don't like being put on a schedule. I also prefer to download vids on a more random basis, I think the creators appreciate getting reviews more when they don't know they're coming.

I do now and then, if I'm moved to. My opinions aren't too important, though, since I don't know all THAT much about the minutiae of editing (they're more from a viewer's perspective).

I've never in my life used the ratings to decide anything. O_o I go by the author's comments, or if I feel like it just downloading things on the basis of series or song to try them out (my connection's fast enough for that). I just see it as a breakdown of a particular opinion, basically. I don't notice them much (hell, if MY awful videos are getting 8's and 9's, something is desperately wrong ;)).

Anyhow, yes, I write a few comments if I found the vid interesting and there aren't many comments for it yet (otherwise I figure that they don't need my input). That's all.

I like giving out opinions and like getting them. I find that they are very helpful, and well worth writing. I does bother me when people don't reply, though. It's nice to know what they thought of your opinion, and whether it helped or not.

And, actually, I agree with what trythil said. Even if we made a better system (I don't think there's anything wrong with it in the first place), I don't think it will change anything. Non-helpful reviews come from people who don't want to "waste" their time writing a good one or for some other reason of their own, not from the system itself. Mind you, I've always thought that the "Favorite Videos" list was more reliable for finding good videos than the "Top 10%Videos" list...

The current system does not work. Even phade knows that. When will you people accept that. The way it's setup people only write opinions to videos that they like so if you are only doing that then every video has a high rating. It's stupid. Either that or no one gives an opinion and the video has a 0 rating.

Mag has a point, giving opinions needs to be easier so even if people hate the video they post an opinion. A praising comment isn't as useful as a criticising one (usually)

Yes, that is why a thumbs up or down system would be MUCH better than the one we have now. All people care about is if you recommend the video. Not how it changed your life and what you were wearing when you saw it and what you thought of a certain pixel in frame 1243

I always enjoy getting an opinion, whether it's positive or negative. Positive opinions make me feel good, and negative ones show me what I need to do differently.

However, I frequently find myself hesitating to leave an opinion because I DESPISE the ratings section. I always wonder if I am being fair; am I being too harsh, too lenient? I hate wondering about that.

I personally would be in favor of getting RID of the ratings section entirely and having only the feedback section.

I have toyed with the idea of giving straight 5's in every review and focusing my efforts solely on the Good, Bad, General sections, since I despise messing with the 1-10 system. However, as far as the Feedback sections go, I also hate leaving reviews where I don't really have anything specific to say there.

Usually, I don't leave a review unless I feel very motivated to do so; however, given my lack of technical knowledge, I usually don't have much helpful to say. So, I don't leave many reviews because I really don't know enough to be of any help.

I still write reviews. I've got about 17 now... something like that. And I've got 5 on my list. I think even just a viewer's feedback is very useful seeing as how most people are simply viewer's and not creators. I don't think you need to get very technical. You can still notice little things in the video, and the obivous effects.

But yeah the ratings system is hard to use effectively. And both the reviewer and the creator would have to know exactly what each number meant. And even then it's hard to use effectively.

I'd like to get rid of the rating system, as well, and just focus on the feedback.

That and the thumbs up/down system Mag Launcher mentioned. Writing feedback could be optional... that could work, that way you could keep a top 10% with the highest ratio of thumbs up...
