Is There Another Great AMV Creator?

Postby -M_X_R- » Sun Aug 18, 2002 12:02 am

I know almost everyone knows about Kevin Caldwell and I must say that he is truly worthy of being called one of the greatest AMV creators, but now what I'm wondering is who else is just as good and coming up to the big time like K.C. and are there any videos that are better than his "Believe" and "Engel"???

What's with the sudden trend of newcomers who are too lazy to watch videos and see for themselves who is good, and instead rely on other people to give them their opinions?

Lots of people make good videos - Kevin Caldwell, Maniac Expressions, Maboroshi Studio, ErMaC, Doki Doki... some people think I'm decent, but don't listen to them. My videos suck. :-)

Now go watch some videos and start to think for yourself, boy.

No. There is nothing better. You are doomed to a sea of AMV mediocrity forever. Sorry.

It's easy enough to look at the Top 10% to get an idea of the good ones, but to expect a newbie to go through all 10,042 AMV's (as of 18 Aug 2002) and form their own opinions is asking a tad much, don'cha think?

Instead, one could simply go to the Forum and ask those more experienced... assuming they don't lash out at you with an hostilty that's becoming the norm among the AMV community.

He wasn't asking them to watch EVERY video that's been made -- nobody would do that. (At least I hope nobody would do that, because that means that that somebody needs more to do.)

The Top 10% is a good way to see what are considered the best. You do miss out on a lot of good videos that way -- there are always creators who are seriously underrated -- but you can still get an idea of what's what. More inquisitive newbies will remain in the community for a while and catch up on gossip. Sometimes an AMV-god(ddess)-in-the-shadows will pop out and just ask for an opinion, in which case the newbie has an opportunity for discovery.

Frick, and I just noticed that I had too many d's in my parenthesized expression. Even preview can't save me.

Anyone in the finals in any of the big cons (Otakon, AX, AWA Masters) is usually someone to watch for. Dokidoki definately should be on that list though. *bows to the l33t m4573r of p4r0Dy*

Me I'm the best.....duh! (j/k =)

Seriously its hard to argue who is the Best Overall......the following are probably the 2 Best Overall.

Kevin Caldwell
Maboroshi Studio (Joe Croasdaile)

Oh and just cause you get in to the finals of a big con doesn't mean your sudenly a great creator either. I've seen some of the vids of this years AX and Otakon winning vids nothin' spectaculiar. Sill good vids though. =)
