im workin on my first amv and am using wmm. when i am previewing it, it skips to the end of the song at the same point everytime. i exported it and played it in media player and it worked fine. any idea why?
also, since wmvs seem to be looked down upon is there a way to convert and is it worth it to do so?

you'll need to host the video if you want to leave a link on xanga. http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... php?t=2864 shows how.
however, if you're just showing the video to a few friends, i find it easier to send the video over aim file transfer or mirc.

So here's my next question: If it comes with XP, can I just pop in my Windows XP CD and install it? I'm like the ultimate n00b, here.

If you have XP, it should be somewhere in the start menu. Otherwise look for C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\moviemk.exe in your harddrive. I'd also recommend upgrading to WMM 2.0 available: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/usin ... fault.mspx

wmm, being video editing software, is memory intensive, and usually if you have more than a handful of clips on the timeline, it lags when trying to load up the video in the preview window. the best way around this i've found is to break your video up into 10-20 second fragments, which gives you more of a chance to preview some parts of your video in the preview screen, and when it starts lagging you can just export that 10-20 second fragment and preview it in media player.

wmvs can be converted to AVI via avisynth and virtualdubmod (available in the AMVAPP, or to MPG via tmpgenc.
i've found in recent experience that it is worth converting wmv to avi because you can use cleaning filters to improve the quality of the video.

1. download and install the amvapp if you haven't done so.
2. open notepad. type: directshowsource("c:/<filepath>/<filename>.wmv", 29.97)
where <filepath> is the filepath of your video and <filename> is the name of your video.
you can also add in cleaning filters or scripts at this point. it is optional but recommended for better quality.
3. click file/save. change the "save as type" from *.txt to all files. then enter a filename followed by the extension .avs
4. open virtualdubmod (a program in amvapp), and click file/open video file... and select the avs file you just saved.
5. you can click file/save as..., then enter a filename and click save, but that will create an uncompressed AVI, which for a 4-5 minute video might be 2-4 gigabytes in size. for a smaller size you'll need to compress the video with a codec. http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... /xvid.html will show you how to compress with the xvid codec.

Actually, that kind of a double post only happens if you hit submit twice before the page loads, I believe.

Hi! I have a tiny question...

Postby slades_apprentice » Sat Sep 04, 2004 1:36 pm

By using DVD footage, how do you just get parts of it? Is there a program I should buy or download? I love seeing AMVs and have decided to try and make at least one, but I am still sort of blurry on the whole idea. I'm good with html and css, but they don't have much of anything to do with AMVs. 0_o

[MOD: Please don't ask for downloadable footage. It is against the Forum Rules.]

Thanks and Luv 2 All-

Yes, it's only in that case. Because some slow computers send the post data but don't go to the "submitted" page, so you click the button again and end up re-sending the post.

in that case, the error was probably AFTER the message was submitted. In other words, the message was sent, but you couldn`t open the page.

<a href="http://www.doom9.org/sr.htm">SmartRipper</a> (note that doom9, for some retarded reason, makes all external links go to their home page instead of where they were supposed to go, so you'll have to look for it, but it should be easy to find)

problems are common in wmm.

Postby MikaelJuha » Mon Sep 20, 2004 7:52 pm

tuathaanwarrior, windows movie maker does that because music files are easy to play and run at a rather lower processing power than video files. so when you are testing a vid in windows movie maker, it is common to see the music files play ahead of the video files. i managed to fix this by just getting my ram upgraded the (random access memory) used to help process certain applications for a pc, in this case windows movie maker, but if you don't got a 2.5 gigs or ram, i'm not sure what the difference is with you pc, but yeah a ram upgrade or just making the vid files into movie files then previewing them and going back to editing might be the overall solution you will have to do; although making movie files one after another does chew up memory, it might be the only way for you preview them; that or get an uber ram upgrade or a processor upgrade also. you should also upgrade you drivers and see if your video card is up to date. good luck :D
