even so, considering the vast numbers on musicians and groups out there sticking to one for too long is stupid considering there are thousands of other ones out there that NOONE uses.

I think music videos reflect the creators feelings and arre inspired by how the creator feels. Thus it would be a good idea to use music that the creator is familiar with and can reflect on it easily. That somewhat limits all the music no one uses.

If an anime or a song is cliche, then I feel as a viewer that it would deter me from wanting to watch or downlaod that song. There are hundreds of Dragonball Z AMV's out there, but how many of them are really goood? The only exception I can think of is Scott Melzer's video. If I see that someone made an AMV that's been done already, I would be apprehensive to watch it.
However, as an artist, I don't see any reason to limit oneself to "original" ideas. No artwork is truly original, so why not take an idea and make it better? The only problem with this is that viewers expectations will be raised, so artists will have to perform that much better.

Thank you, I've been saying almost the same thing for some time now.
Everyone is not the same as you.

I don't usually use songs that I personally like. If the song goes well for the amv, then I make the video. After the video is done, and if it's done well, then I like it. I tried it out a few times with the songs that I liked, I kept getting things in the areas of it looking like I feel and not how it should. Too much emotion in an AMV can make it very unnatural looking to other people. So song selection is prime. You have to choose a song you can effectively use. It must be a song for the effect you want to achieve. Any way of locating these songs is plausible. So I disagree you have to have a wide taste in music, you just have to have an open mind.

I do believe they are refering to how the NIN music is used as a theme, not the song... NIN songs do kinda blend together after a while.

Atleast NIN is a good band...

I'd personally like more IDM videos (like Zerophite's "Come To Daddy (Bear Mix)" and "Pale Moonlight"). There aren't enough Aphex Twin, Plaid, Boards of Canada, and DJ Krush vids (in fact, there are none for some)
