Anime quality

Post by Sephirothskr » Sun Aug 03, 2014 4:32 pm

A quick question.. I'm probably being picky here but...

When it comes to AMV quality, does 720p and 1080p really make a huge difference? I find it to be a major pain in the butt to get anime in 1080 as they are huge file sizes and take long to download. Whereas 720p is easier and more manageable, but you get a bit less quality. Is this a huge deal or am I just being picky here? Thanks :)

i'd recommend 720 over 1080 encodes. the quality difference is insignificant in almost any case, as most anime aren't actually animated at 1080p. also more convenient to work with as you mentioned, to archive, etc etc.

It might make a difference if you upload it to youtube. But other than that 720p all the way!
Hell I even think 480p still looks good.

720p all the way for the reasons Slimed mentioned. Even if you've got a rip of a really well remastered pre-digipaint show (best example is the Kenshin OVAs), 1080p is slow and unwieldly. Stick with 720p, and if you want to save a little more space, for most modern anime 480p is going to look perfectly fine/

720 is still good, but I upscale my amv's using Zarzax's program to 1080 after editing. It actually cleans up the footage really nice. There is a big difference in my Slayers AMV I just remastered and will be releasing later this month. Compared to the original version.

I always fullscreen my video so that's probably why it's important to me. Then again I come from a generation of editors that didn't have youtube or streaming. It's really nice to watch it on the full screen and just take in the video, seeing all the detail.
