Your program of choice!

Post by Kokoro Hane » Wed May 07, 2014 8:35 pm

All AMV editors probably have a certain programs they prefer to use to make their AMVs. And I am sure a lot of us begun with Windows Movie Maker but moved on to other things, or perhaps you're a master at WMM and have stuck with it. Talk about your choice in editing software and why!

For my brother and I, we use MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 15 (yes, we've been using it since it was new and still kickin'). We use it so much, we have come to know its flaws and its strengths. While it may not come with a lot of flashy built-in effects, with the right skills, it has all the tools you need to MAKE YOUR OWN! With chroma key, contrast, light, and color adjustments, as well as zoom, sizes, and roation, often my brother and I will create our own effect templates with GIMP and/or MS Paint and overlap it. Making your own effects gives an AMV a unique and personalized feel, especially if it is for a particular concept. While many newer versions of MAGIX Movie Edit Pro have since come out (and we would LOVE to try someday), we're still very happy with the good old version 15, and for me personally, my goal is to make many epic AMVs with it to show you don't always have to have the latest, nor spend hundreds of dollars to make an amazing, eye-pleasing AMV! ^.^ Trust me, you can, especially if you're my brother; he's just the kinda guy who will push every tool he uses beyond its limits, so I have learned a lot of techniques from him~

So what about you? What program(s) do you like to use for creating your AMVs?

My editing program of choice is Adobe Premiere 6.0. I started with WMM back in 2002 and moved on to MGI Video Wave 4, but once I learned Premiere and the multi track editing and how easy it was to use. I just can't imagine using another program, nor do I have the time right now to learn another one.
No matter what, stay calm, stay cool and live life to the fullest.
Plus as Gene would say always go big in life.

I made my first video with WMM and then moved on to Sony Vegas Pro 6. I stayed with Vegas 6 up until this last summer when I finally built a new computer. Now I'm use Adobe Premiere Pro CS6. It was intimidating at first to work with Adobe, but once I got use to the interface, there was no stopping me at all.

I started off using Adobe Premier 6.5 back in 2002. It was a steep learning curve but I got the hang of it and have been using premier ever since. The biggest jump for me was moving from 6.5 to premier pro cs3. The layout, many effects, ect was completely different. But once I got the hang of the effect pane (which I found my experience with after effects 5 helped) I wouldn't want to go back. I've since upgraded to cs6 and now CC.

I use Sony Vegas 8 as my NLE, and Adobe Photoshop CS and After Effects 7 when needed.

I've been thinking this way too, because I think it'd be nice to have the whole Adobe integration thing, and it'd make the workflow so much smoother. But I'm hesitant, because I really like Vegas and I'm used to it (it's what I've been using for almost eight years now), and I've used Premiere in the past and there were little things I didn't like (look/feel of the program, keyboard shortcuts, etc). I'm sure most of those things could be changed in the program's options, but...

Meh, we'll see. I figure that I've done just fine with Vegas this whole time, why change what I'm already proficient with?

Started with Adobe Premiere 5.1, back when programs like that still came with good tutorials in actual physical user manuals. Switched to Adobe Premiere Pro in December 2003 and used that for everything until just this year.

Now I'm probably upgrading to Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 (since, you know, CS2 and all that).

We think in the same way. I'm used to Sony Vegas but then I feel lazy to use Premiere. I have the impression I'll be slower if I use Premiere (Considering the lack of knowledge I have about the program)

I use Sony Vegas. I have for years now.

I also use Photoshop and After Effects when needed.
I have craved for a better workflow when heavy effects are needed, however, the Premiere + AE combo didn't do it for me.
Adobe Premiere has to be the worst POS software I have ever tried. (My opinion of course).
I might use this in the future. Looks promising on paper (Editing with VFX in one software). Haven't tried it out yet though.

Even if I got used to Vegas in these years (Like 7 or 8 using it, I started in 2002 with WMM) I prefer Premiere + After Effects combo...like 65.000 more choices than any other editing software, also lot of customization for everything you do. That's sexy.

My opinion! o/
