take as long or as little time you want as long as the final product says to you "yeah, now THAT'S what i want"?

people work at a different pace, but as long as you don't rush to do things you'll be fine. take time to build previews and fine detail every little thing and you'll do well.

in my experience a good mv takes about a month or so at an average pace. but f course if you work faster or slower then you'll end up with a different time.

final fantasy x is a game, not an amv.

Shamless Rock Video took from Christmas to May to make (with major time iff in the middle)? Whether it's good or not is a matter of opinion.

Believe by Kevin Caldwell is a video I'd very much call "good" and he described the process of creating that as "painful"?

There is such a thing as a good amv that only takes a few hours but if your amv isn't good in concept alone then it needs to be good in execution and that requires patience.

For me, a video takes on average 30 to 45 days to complete.

The longest I have ever spent on one was 4 months and the shortest was 3 hours (I was timing myself) The 3 hour one actually turned out pretty good if you can accept the fact that it wasn't anime and was more of a movie trailer than a music video.

Wouldn't it be better to give a rough estimate on hours spent on a particular amv? For example, if I told people that I completed my Stress video in 4 days, they would think that I was insane and couldn't give a reasonable estimate. After I then told people that I did it in 40-50 hours in those 4 days, they just thought that I was insane. ;)

Depends on complexity. Some can take months to a year while others can get done in a few weeks. Mine take about a month or two to finish unless I go for the same as my Lain video and spend three days on it without any sleep.

First off your right "AbsoluteDestiny" destiny it is a game, I ment to say how long would it take to make an amv(or should i say a non-amv) about something like ffx. So if the average is a month, then how long would many of you say that you spent each day working on it???, and how many of those day's in a week???, the reason I ask this is becuase when i was using video wave 4, i found my self rushing and taking little time as possible, and now i realize there where many points in my amv's where the sync was really bad, and now i really want to go back and fix those. Especially when i know i could do some much better using Adobe, the way i know this is becuase some of my Cuzn's who are professional's in music videos(not really amv's but similar) told me my concept and presentation where really good and i was lucky to have just even a few sync point's in my amv's.??

Most Final Fantasy, Sailor Moon & Dragon Ball Z videos can be done in a matter of minutes.??? :p

My basic guess on how long it takes is "until Iam sick of it and put it on the internet half-finished"?

Most of my videos were done in 2 - 5 days. My first AMV was done in 14hrs or so. My vids are not horrible, but they're nothing to go bonkers over.?.sooo you be the judge. If it takes you a month to make a music video and that month was actually used to productivly make your AMV, then it's probably going to be a good AMV, unless you don't know what you're doing.

Also I think it takes a strong mental vision of what you want to do. If you come to a part of a song and you don't know what to put there, it will cause a big hiccup in production since you'll strain your brain figuring out what you should put in there, but forget the solid parts you had envisioned before hand. That's what happens to me alot!! :p

As I said before knowing your tools will certainly play a factor. I can make neat stuff happen within a hour after starting a video that will keep my interest. If you've spent 4hrs tring to get the ~diamond~ transition to work then you're probably going to have a hard time getting the rest of your video done :p

How long?

Let's see I myself have just finished a FFX vid. ^_^

It took me about.????.20 hours on Premiere alone, obtaining the clips and converting them into a suitable format took a while longer.

BUT

This video marks the low-end of my time taken per video. It's one of the more straightforward amongst my videos, and I do consider myself pretty fast/farmilar with Premiere already. Fruther more it's a slow song, so the edit counts are much lower than if I had made a fast action video.

My norm is about 10-20 hours per minute of footage. From 10-15 hours right up to over 200 pure editing hours (not including rendering, converting, footage ripping, planning, souring)? And I've spent from anywhere from a week to half to 8 months to complete my videos. But note that I've been accused of being obssessive-complusive and the time I spend is probably on the higher end of the scale.

It all ultimately depends on
1. How quick you are when editing (how quick your ideas come together)
2. How picky you are (making every single second and frame, yes frame is well spent)?
3. How complex and long the video is.
4. How available are your tools required and technical know-how

I personally feel that it is better to spend more time per video and release less videos than making lots of half-attempts. You'll feel a lot more proud of your work in hindsight.

!#$!%$ typos and errors.

One more point I forgot to add

5. How much source fotoage are you drawing from.

If your source footage is small (ie 90-minute movie or games like FF) then it usually is much easier getting things done than if you are..uh drawing from the entire Evangelion TV show episodes and the 2 movies. ^_^

And yes FFX is on the lower end of the 'footage length' measurement so it should be 'technically' easier and faster to make. On the other hand the lack of enough footage can make it a great challenge if you want to convey much more than what the footage could provide. It all depends on the concept that you want to deliver.
