need help in multi-creator AMV management

I'd like to start a multi-creator AMV, but this would be the first time I do this...

As some people here have already dealt with such projects (ddr, mission improbable...) I'd like to know what are the problems that can be encountered, how to manage such a project without physically seeing all the participants,...well, anything that could be relevant and show me if it is possible for me do handle such a thing...

In managing DDR, the biggest thing was to make sure that I was in constant contact with all of the editors. With DDR2, I made every editor send me a status report every 3 weeks or so, just to keep track of how they were doing. It's also a good idea to ask for periodic samples of their work, to make sure they're keeping up and not doing anything out of line (ie, excessive fanservice, violence, etc.).

One thing that was helpful to me in particular was knowing a LOT of editors...when people start dropping out at the last minute, you need editors you can really trust to pick up the slack...if you just ask a random volunteer that you've never heard of, there's a good chance you'll never hear back from them again. Elitist? No, just realistic and practical.

That's all I can think of for right now.
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

I have a few other questions that you or other people might be able to answer to...

What about communication ? Did you do all this by e-mail ?
Did you have a ftp server or something to help you to receive each particpant's work ?
Were there particular specifications for the video (soource, Codec, framerate, ...) ?

The first thing to know, You can't and _shoudn't_ do it all on your own. Get a group of people you trust to act as a team of cuordinators. You need to set specific guidelines on codec, framerate, aspect ratio, source footage, and data rates. I've found that a forum like this is an easy way to conduct business without having to email 3 dozen people every time you need to make an announcement. Sadly the whole crux of the matter boils down to intrest in the project, and setting realistic goals.

We actually started a mailing list (groups.yahoo.com) for communication, but for really important announcements, I CCed the messages to individual email addresses. I've gotten to know a good number of the DDR editors, though, so I keep in touch with a lot of them over AIM nowadays.

Quu took care of tech...he has a server for people to upload peoples' work to, and he drafted up a lengthy document with all the technical specifications.
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

Well Too Fucked Up Production (Although we haven't released anything) Has been working together for a while.

We work together in the garage actually. We got a 5 monitor set up back their hooked up to our PC. :) We started doing amv's recently.

I can't really give you advice about doing a music video online with others, but if you're working with a bunch of other people on one computer... Have more than one monitor, last thing you need is 10 people pointing to something different on the same damn monitor. :)
