I'd have to say that there are people out there who actually send videos to strategically win categories and such. They made not be vocal on the forums, but sadly I have seen them discuss it and it makes me sad.

Not many people are going to post their "I'll win all the awards because everyone else sucks" in public on the forums, but from what I've seen in private that ideal is still going waaaaay too strong with waaay too many. That is one thing that really makes me hate those that troll.

I'm sorry but I will never see the appeal in having every single contest identical with the same videos. I've heard more negative impacts on the crowd than I have positive, at least from those who actually care about AMVs and aren't just there to see Naruto dance to Lady Gaga and lol.

It's disappointing to see that this hasn't changed, it's just gone a bit more "underground." For what it's worth, this matches my own previous experiences and is why I have to break with my studiomate and agree with you here, Yue. I also prefer contests to be their own individual events and dislike the idea of every contest being the same or nearly so.

My rage is primarily directed at those who deliberately troll and straight up know it. However, when others do it, it just makes it easier for those who are out there to WINZ ALL THE AWARDZ. It's easier and more comfortable to hide in a pack than it is to be singled out for what you are. Hence why I think it should be discouraged. While the intent isn't always the same, the end product really isn't a whole lot more than just straight up negative.

Personally, I only submit to cons that I want to support. Meaning ones that I want to/will attend, contests where I have been personally asked by the coordinator or someone involved to submit, or cons that seem to actually care about promoting the hobby but need some help. But then again, with the third instance I simply offer to help out the coordinator and show them how to pull in entries the proper way. Give a man a fish or teach him, etc... All in all, I enter maaaaaybe a maximum of 4 conventions a year. So far, my success rate is about 75% so I still don't see the need to troll. >>

To be quite honest, why would you not make AMVs to entertain audiences? making people happy (i.e. I got a e-mail once about a mother who's young daughter's whole day is made by watching her favorite AMVs each morning). If I can make even one person happy, I't all worth it for me...

As for contest trolling.. Let’s not even go there, this will just light up lie a stagecoach doused in gasoline.
