How are amv trailers looked upon?

Postby keyboardsamurai » Wed Feb 26, 2003 8:09 pm

I was just wondering how amv trailer's are looked upon at contests. For example, do people view it as an easy AMV to make (to me it seems they are easier then actual amvs) or do they judge them just the same? Do the crowds like them as much or not?

Take for granted that the skill level of each creator is at the same level.

Crowds generally like them, but as individuals, you'll get mixed reactions. |:

A well done trailer is just as hard I imagine as a well done AMV. Some trailers are great IMHO. We have a catagory for them in the VCA that is going on right now. Check some out and see for yourself.

A whole crowd generally enjoys them as they can be fun to watch. However, many cons do not accept them as they are not technically a "music" video as they rely mostly on their spoken audio to foward the video. So while enjoyed, you won't see many at cons.

Check around with various contests. Some, like Ohayocon, have a special category just for trailers.

as a crowd, anyone could like a trailer, from what I heard the crowd cheered with that Spiderman/Ranma trailer...and that is as far as I'm going to go with that.

Everyone cheered when they were watching my Queen of the Damned Trailer parody at Ushicon this year!! :)

I'm currently working on a few trailer parody ideas right now and one of them has about 4 or 5 different anime in it so far.. Doing a trailer is just as easy or as hard as you make it!! 8)

I've noticed that Con crowds will cheer for just about anything...they're just being polite, though, so I guess it's okay...

I know my opinion means about as nil as the next fella's, but what the hay, here it is. I personally see them NOT as AMVs, but more of a cousin of the audio/video-genre. They retain SOME music, but not in the same way that it would qualify as a music video. And no, I'm not saying that we should exclude all anime trailers from the site just because the site's name is animemusicvideos.org :| That's time-consuming, complicated, and all-around pointless.
I'm saying that while not exactly AMVs, they're still a part of the fan-made anime video family.
