I'm kinda 50/50, I've done edits where I haven't seen the anime at all, hate the anime, etc, and I've worked with stuff I get all giddy about (madoka, nichijou, etc )Ileia wrote:Just because you don't love the anime doesn't mean it's not fun to edit. I'm on the extreme side since I rarely edit with anime I've seen, let alone anime that I like (which are few and far between, really), but that's just what I enjoy. That doesn't make it sad or mean that I take it too seriously, it's just a difference in values. Both views are completely valid, I'm not about to knock someone who makes videos because they love a show, I just may not necessarily appreciate that aspect. (And, like in Chiikaboom's case, the opposite is true.) But, anyway, my point is that I may see anime as stock footage of sorts, but that doesn't mean I'm all omg-super-srs-amvs-are-art-deep-meaning-concept-videos-only, it's possible to be on this end of the AMV spectrum and still have fun*.CodeZTM wrote:I think what you said about making videos for the fandom is a really great thing that editors should do from time to time. I'll openly admit that I'm more about the concept of the video rather than the actual anime, and that's just generally how I like working on most videos. The one time I did edit for fun/fandom (my DRRR! video), it was a blast and I loved doing it. It's not something I want to do ALL the time, but it is indeed a fun thing to do.
*I spend most of my editing time having giggle fits, actually.
I don't have a strong opinion either way whether or not AMVs are art or not, I can see artistic merits in some AMVs and appreciate the depth that some have, but at the same time it gets annoying when it becomes like you're at an art gallery and deconstructing how the color palletes come together to create specific moods or whatever and all the enjoyment is lost :/ Its kinda like saying you can't enjoy comic books cause they don't have redeeming literary value or something. I don't care I just wanna see Hulk smash and Virginia Wolfe is boring, you know? If Virginia Wolfe smashed though, that'd be something.
I've never been much for narratives either, and thats probably the one thing that people complain most to me about D: At the end of the day I really just like throwing cool looking and purdy clips on the track and hitting render cause its fun Kinda rambling I guess, but sometimes people forget that all this is really just for funsies sometimes.
