Man, your Mahou Shoujo Requiem is already beyond awesome. If you can do something better my head will implode ><

Sort of brings to mind the question, can you really say you've made your magnum opus while you're still active in the hobby (or alive)? Right now I know for myself that I've got other non-AMV projects I'm working on to devote 100% of my time again to my more grand ideas but who knows what the future may bring and maybe I'll find the time blow out of the water anything else I've made before.

I haven't really made it yet. Can't say if any of my ideas for videos right now could be it, but who knows. I have many ideas, a lot of them extremely ambitious, but I don't know if I'll actually be able to finish any of them, especially the ambitious ones. I have one video that I've been planning on for quite some time that if I ever actually finish it could perhaps be considered my Magnum Opus by most and another one that if I finish it I would probably consider it my Magnum Opus mostly because it will have been my most ambitious and time consuming project. Problem is, I'm not very patient when it comes to editing so spending 6 hours to only get 2 secs of footage just doesn't sit well with me... so yeah I probably will never finish them because it's so much easier (and fun imho) to follow my standard style and and pump out a full length upbeat video in the same amount of time....

I'll probably always be known for the Dance Series or Hentai though.

For me, it would be my most recent video,

Now, this apparently wasn't a very popular video (didn't even get a vca nomination), but in my opinion it stands as my greatest work.
The title comes not only from the lyrics of the song, but also the fact that this it is, quite literally, all I can do. I went through this video extremely carefully, editing, re-editing, re-editing some more. In the end, there isn't a single thing that I would go back and change about it. I can't say that about any other video that I have made.

I am currently working on my magnum opus. Link in sig.

For my AMV magnum opus, I would have to say:

However, I do still have some pretty ambitious ideas...that probably won't be touched before Akazawa is done. :bear:

Isn't one's Magnum Opus defined by the community and not by one's self? Therefore, it is obvious that I have yet to create anything near the level to be called an Magnum Opus.

In the old days we called this the Tombstone (what played on nonstop loop above your grave site) or "Silencer" video...

My magnum opus would probably be Moneyshot since that is what I am most known for. However, the videos I would not want to go back and change (like Alan mentioned before) would be my VG3 videos (Chicken Choke and Hoop Dreams). The editing and effects on those 2 came out exactly the way I wanted and envisioned in my head before making them.

If star count, downloads, etc. are any indication, The internet is telling me I peaked with Genkaiten back in '07. I don't particularly believe that though. I certainly like some of the stuff i've done since more.

From what I've read about the defintion of a magnum opus, one's intention is almost as important in defining whether or not it is, i.e. has an editor intended for this particular work to be their grandest. If it's purely based on community perceptions, then you might call it someone's masterpiece than one's magnum opus; difference in meaning I know are subtle.

I consider mine to be THIS goddamn RGU video that I gave my all for, for six weeks straight.

And yet it has very easily the worst record of any video I've ever seriously entered into competition.

But the collaboration I'm currently working on may well surpass it in my mind, if we can do the concept justice and get it to look as good as we envisioned. This is one video I'm not willing to rush for the sake of a contest deadline; the concept has too much potential.

This is the case of videos author him/herself don't like it, but the others think it's the best one from the author, and the case of videos the author consider it the best of the best although the others might not share the same opinion :amv:

magnum opus
n.
1. A great work, especially a literary or artistic masterpiece.
2. The greatest single work of an artist, writer, or composer.

Now if you lower the bar and use just the second definition then you would be correct.

I havent really won to much with my vids so i guess i'll just say 14 odd years of making AMVs and still no stopping would be considered my opus. Personally Bohemian Kite Because a 5 min 40 sec song with a 40 minute OVA is the stuff of nightmares AMV wise.

For whats most well known outside of the community the DDR and Animix projects. I actually rewatched my parts in them recently and several vids became the inverse i rather like how things turned out in the last project despite everything that happened(only time i've messed with live action).
