AMV Convention Contest Question

Postby TheUnforgiven » Sun Feb 23, 2003 12:56 am

I dont know if this is the right place to ask this but a convention I'm going to be submitting some videos to requires that you get permission from the company to use the clips for something like the Convention Contest.

the Convention is Anime Expo if you need to know.

Most domestic companies will quickly reply to permission requests via email, which are usually available on their sites. My dealings with ADV, in terms of getting club permissions, has required that I call them as they seem to ignore most emails. Pioneer is kinda off and on with their email responses too, so if they don't get back you might try calling them as well.

Well my problem is that I dont know who makes the vids I'm gonna be using...
I plan on using scenes from The record of Lodoss War, Vampire Hunter D and bloodlust, Ninja Scroll, and a few others

There a link where I can who makes what ones?

In case you missunderstood the rules, you do not need to get permission to show your vids at AX, that specific article is a bit ambiguous.

One other thing..

6. Anime Expo® reserves the right to use any video footage for display and promotional purposes. Submission of a video constitutes as consent for said use.

12. All video footage and music used in the music videos entered into the contest is assumed by Anime Expo® to have been cleared for use in this contest. It is the entrant's responsibility to ensure clearance is obtained from the creator/distribution company.

What i get from readin both of those it seems they could use my Vid for promiontional purposes..therforth I'd need permission correct?

There just making sure in the chance that legal action is taken against them because of your vid they can shift the blame onto you. So you don't really have to clear them, but in the small chance something does happen... It in other words is up to you.

Not really. Thing is that they like to show old AMVs in between shows in the video rooms and I've seen them once use Caffine Encorium for a TV ad. So really they are saying that it becomes THEIR property afterwords so they can do what they want with it. Most cons say that it's their property once you submit the video. You still need not get permission yourself. All you have to do is make the video and send it to them.
