This is so weird because I was having a discussion with Waya about YouTube editors and Org editors lol Makes me wanna do a lil vid response about this topic mostly because I've ran into a lot of YT editors telling me to piss off for giving constructive criticisms on their videos.

Great interview as well! I don't think I've heard of BakaViking. Might go check out some of his work!

Another good read Code

First of all, thanks for this article Code. It was a good read

I'll like to give some comments about YouTube:

When I first made an amv several years ago, I didn't know about the org or YouTube, it passed a lot (and I mean it) to discover YouTube. I had great expectations about YouTube, since by that time my goal was to show all my stuff, obviously I thought that stuff was the best of the best until I started meeting other editors.

I'll like to mention a certain editor that belongs to this community and I think I'll be always grateful with him. And that guy is AikiNick. I recommend this guy as betatester.

When I first met him he gave me a detailed feedback, that by that time I didn't appreciate it. I was like: How dare you?!

It's the case of several editors I know from YouTube. I was the responsable of the retirement of a famous AMVer in YouTube, since he asked feedback for a vid, and even when his people says that he could win the Japan Expo, in the commens I said the opposite. I literally crush him since I detailed every flaw present in the video, so the guy stopped talking with me, he announced his retirement, but fortunately returned back. After that time, he seemed to have reflexed about the importance of feedback.

I always tell everybody I know: My purpose at giving feedback in videos is not to discourage you, but to help you since that's the purpose of the feedback. In YouTube I tend to do it so I got some 'guys' that 'love' me a lot :P

It's not like YouTube it's so bad that you should burn it. YouTube is like a 'window' to promote the org itself. I like to read comments like: I went to the org thanks to this AMV. Didn't know about this site, so I joined
ANd to mention that I realized about the org thanks to YouTube. Otherwise I would have discovered it by searching anime but probably would have taken more time.

It also depends how you use it: If you want to promote your stuff, YouTube is good, considering you'll have chances to get commenters that will share your job with other people. In the case of the org, the org is good in terms of feedback, considering it will be hard to find a detailed feedback in YouTube (nor impossible)

About AMVNews:

I find funny some comments there. Some guys there even talk like if they were directors of famous movies, and I mean it. Even in the org I haven't found yet anybody that comments like if they feel in authority to call 'lame' a singer or anime and then say stuff like 'I can sing that song better'.
The funniest fact is that some commenters there uses the ratings like a kind of menace against an editor. 'You can give me 1 if you want, yes I mean it. Only for you that rating will be more important than life'

Sorry for double comment:

BakaViking:

It was pleasant to realize that you're a girl. Seems my intuition is not failing

I dunno if I will be here by 2013, but you seem to have potential. Not all days we have videos with interesting concepts. Keep doing the amvs. Seems you might be the rookie of the year

I thought that was a cool interview. I haven't seen BakaViking around at all [Granted, Im only really active in certain parts of the forum right now] so it was cool to get to know her a bit. I personally think it would be neat to have a mix of newer editors and vetrans/more known people as well.

Be helpful! Give useful feedback, and point people in the right direction. Positive or negative, there’s no need to be too harsh, but there’s no need to sugarcoat things either.
^^This^^

Something every newbie editor needs. From personal experience, after asking so many experienced editors for advice on what makes an AMV better and actually READING their advice :book:, Anyone can learn soooo much from their advice on what they believe makes an AMV better and the questionnaire can learn so much more. Not to mention, beta tests help a lot ;)
CodeZTM wrote:Q: So you came to a-m-v.org for quality feedback? The harshness/bitchiness isn't a turnoff? Aren't the positive YouTube comments a little empowering?

Of course they are, I’d be lying if I said something else! I’d also be lying if I said I don’t get frustrated and grumpy over harsh comments. But generally I don’t think it’s THAT bad in here, I’ve seen a lot worse. I think it has a lot to do with attitude: you can’t post a video and expect only praise.
I lol'ed at this. Its so true xD (I'm also grateful I came here as soon as I did because I developed a thick-skin fast!)

gote wrote:the person that brought up the upload system here though has a really good point. if that were as easy as on youtube, we would get a lot more visitors and members here. and inviting people to be active here wouldn't be so hard. I've tried to get a few editors here and always they're like "how the f do i upload" (because, like me, they click the "upload new video" link first) and even after (or while) i'm explaining it to them, they just give up and don't feel like it's worth it when they're right at home on youtube without such a hassle. i think that should be pretty priority with that fabled "Org redesign" yall talked about a while back.
This

The upload system can be a big hook, lure, and bait for all the youtube guppies hoping to snag a nibble at higher learning :shark: As far as an .org re-design, I'm all for it. |:>

I've got enough interviewees, so I'm happy to announce that there will indeed be a bonus panel next week covering the more positive aspects of youtube than compared to a-m-v.org. If you would like to join us, just pop me a pm!

WAIT WAIT WAIT! Is that a good thing!? :|
CodeZTM wrote:Also, would more interviews from newcomers (or less seasoned editors) be something others would be interested in?
I would! :P For obvious reasons, but also because as a genral rule I think it's nice to get as many perspectives on a topic as possible. I've enjoyed the other interviews a lot, it'd be fun to see other approaches.

Definitely! it's a bit scary though. ...am I the only one that feel like I'm about to do an exam when they upload things?

exactly! you can explain EXACTLY what's wrong but MOST noobs will take that as flaming and won't listen! OR you can just say 'watch a lot of good videos and take what you like from them! *not literally, find your own sources but...)' but the most likely response is this, "I wish you'd have just SHOWED me what's wrong!!". But again, when we do SHOW ppl what's WRONG we get attacked for 'flaming' them.

SO in the end your stuck between a rock and a hard place, most ppl choose just to say 'watch good videos...'. And the Noobs complain. It's a neverending cycle. you'll have your chance someday I'm sure!
