it would be awesome to have some kind of screening process for this and then a batch file made or split it up into genres or areas of expertise. you could include txts that include newly written theory guides that apply to the specific category.

did i mention we could do some theory guide updates along with the recommended viewing?

I'm not the one deciding this but that's a pretty good idea :P

That might be a really neat idea for future Lip Flappers. :) /steals

Also, apparently my post didn't go through on this (I thought I had already posted on this), so I'll re-write my list this afternoon.

This is ridiculously overdue, but I finally found the time to REALLY sit down and go through my archives. Sadly, I don't have much pre-2005, but I do have a few good hits here and there.

Actually, a lot of my reccomendations are more modern videos, but mostly because I think that we've evolved technically and that is something that needs to be taken into account (not always, see my dance videos and you'll understand).

______________________

Action
These videos are exciting and filled with adrenaline! It is a roller coaster ride that could involve fighting, flying, or even playing tennis – if this video captivates you and gets your blood pumping, then it is the best action video.

A wise man once said that action without purpose is pointless. So I always like videos that have a solid concept and execution of that concept, as well as a fusion of dramatic/sentimental elements. Kazemon's video does this, has great pacing and just generally hits that adrenaline filled craze as well.

A wise man also said that we should occasional screw that stupidity that is concept and just have mindless fanservice and enjoyment. Both of these videos have that "fanservice" aspect and execute it well.

______________________

Comedy
-This is the video that has made you laugh the hardest – not just because of the song or anime used, but because of the clever way they are put together.

Comedy videos should always make you laugh. That's key point one. :3

But sometimes, comedy videos can also appeal to social situations that we all experience in our lives.

And sometimes comedy takes things about our lovely anime and puts them in perspective with other funny things in our lives.

________________________

Fun
-This is a happy, upbeat video that contains very little comedy and dance elements but still leaves an overall good feeling with the viewer.

The key to "fun" videos that aren't actually comedy videos in disguise is when you see a "fun" video and smile, but in a way that uplifts you. Sometimes, that means catering to the fanbase and putting on the nostalgia goggles.

Other times, it's just utilizing lighthearted footage and music and putting together something that just puts you in a good mood. But lyric sync is always a fantastic tool in making this come across better.

Other times? Well, it's just that PERFECT combination of footage, clever editing tools and a fantastic scene selection that leaves the viewer satisfied.

____________________

Dance
-This is an energy-filled video, often containing prominent scenes of characters dancing, that most makes you want to get off your chair and DANCE!

Videos that make you get up an dance is the first step to making a successful dance video. But more importantly, it's got to have that "feeling" to put you in the mood.

sometimes, videos don't even need the typical "dance" scenes. Action and upbeat scenes can also get that fantastic "groove" that everyone wants to see.

Utilization of a famous franchise and adorable visual elements are also a valuable key.

Boy bands. That is all.

_______________________

Drama
-This video captures a heavily dramatic event, emotion, or situation and conveys it extremely well.

It doesn't matter what you pick as a dramatic element to focus on, but you need to really BRING IT HOME. But religion and the human psyche are always great sources.

Other times, it doesn't have to be something others can relate with, so much as capturing the dramatic elements that we're not as used to feeling but still wish to understand. Such as the tactical cunning of a master tactician in his bid for world domination.

And when all else fails, the subject of our own humanity/mortality are always a great dimension to capture, as its something that we can all relate to.

___________________________

Fanservice
-These AMVs capture what the fans want. Usually, that means a characters "assets", but can also be references to other series or things just generally pleasing to the audience.

Boobs and pantyshots, naturally.

Talking about/finding boobs and pantyshots in a fun/upbeat manner!

But seirously, fanservice =/= boobs all the times. Sometimes it's the lighthearted servicing of fans and what they want to see for their favorite AMVs.

___________________

Horror
-These AMVs invite fear and dread into the hearts of the viewers. Were you scared?

Fear of the uknown and the self-imposed insanity form the fear of those around you is a great way to capture horrific means. But there's no reason why horror can't also incorporate other elements. In fact, sometimes, it's the addition of other elements (love/comedy/ect) that make it all the more effective. especially when you go from a very soft/quiet music and then BAM WHAT THE HELL IS THAT AHHHHHHH.

Sometimes it's not physical fear of pain/suffering, but the mere knowledge/seeing that there are silent people out there that wouldn't mind to see you perish at their own hands, and you never seeing it happen. Oh, and crazy/insane people who are completely normal looking. /shudder

Other times, horror videos are just merely those scary things that you see/imagine from all those terrifying stories you hear late at night. Not necessarily "TERRIFIYING", but still there to make you uncomfortable and in need of a nightlight.

_______________________

Romance
-These vidoes portray a romantic feeling or relationship in the most compelling way. It explores one or many of the faces of love, whether that’s happiness, yearning, devotion, flirtatiousness, nostalgia, heartbreak, or something else.

As godix and I once discussed, romance videos should try to capture the positive elements of love. Because honestly, if there isn't SOMETHING to be gained from love, there what the hell are we in this for?

But sometimes, love isn't always that easy, and isn't always that clear cut. Love isn't always returned, and sometimes, you've got the crazy people.

And sometime loves makes you completely change who you are and open up as a person.

Naturally, love can also be about flacking and getting to that point.

______________________

Lip Sync
-These AMV displays the best quality (NOT quantity) of lip-synch work in a video.

... Just watch it. >_>
