To those of us with kids...

Postby OtakuGray » Mon Dec 19, 2011 9:31 pm

So I've got a kid on the way, a girl, and I'm hoping to introduce her to anime once I think she is old enough to watch it. I won't push editing on her ofc, but I do think watching anime would be a fun hobby to share with my child.

I was wondering though, how many editors on org actually have children...and if they do, how many enjoy anime? o:

If they do...do they also enjoy editing?(maybe even with their parents...) I just thought it would be interesting to find out! ^^

Oh god, then the hexagons popped up and I was like 'I just got a stiffie'. Then there was the circle with those thingies going around and I blew my load.

I still don't have my children but my little sis met anime through my amvs

Evrytime I start editing she sits and start watching how I'm editing an amv, or even when I'm watching anime in my free time

Now that you mention that:

Even though I already work, my parents are always the first people that waych my videos even before premiering them in the org, they even watch 1 episode of every serie I use in the video.

Well, my parents used to be my old beta-testers, back when I still used Windows Movie Maker. I would get really excited when I finished a video, even though back then I didn't know how to get clips, time clips, etc...so I suppose when they saw it they probably were thinking something along the lines of "wtf is this supposed to be?"

They weren't as cool about watching the anime I used though...My stepdad loves Death Note, and he liked Gurren Lagann because it made fun of typical mecha shows... They recently stopped testing my videos because they couldn't really give me any advice anymore. They said the editing was too advanced for them. I guess for someone who doesn't make the videos it becomes hard to tell where I screwed up and where I didnt  oh well :3

D: I wish I could have that kind of parents-tester.
The ironic fact is that in my job, there's one elder doctor that I met recently, when you see him, you don't suspect anything, but the old man is an expert in anime. He even betatested me a short clip a month ago and I was like: O.o how come this old guy knows that much?

No kids, but I have corrupted some of my little cousins to get into anime via my videos, to which my aunt, (their grandmother), always says something along the lines of, 'Oh jeez, where do you guys get this stuff?'. |:> The oldest of my youngest group of cousins, (if that makes sense...), actually wants to go with my friends and I to a convention next year, which is REALLY surprising considering her, erm...demeanor, (cheerleader, cage fight ring girl, etc.) None of them are into editing, but I do know most of my family watches my videos and enjoys them for the most part.

Also, on a side note, congrats on your new bundle of joy! :)

No kids personally, but just about ALL of my nieces and nephews are into some kind of anime because of me and my amvs. It helps, though, that my sisters are into it somewhat as well. All but two of them have made random wmm videos on my computer as well.

I wouldn't have my dad beta test for me, because he's not into anime that much, and well, some of the videos I make don't mesh well with his idea of how the world should be, so I only show him some of them.

My son actually got me into anime when he wanted to watch DBZ on Toonami in the late 90's (he was like 5). We pretty much watched it together until it ended on CN but he never really got into other animes while I started watching all kinds of stuff. He is 16 now and pretty much off of anime altogether...hate to say it but I pretty much am also. It has been nice catching those DBZKai episodes on Nicktoons though every once in awhile, very nostalgic.

No kids here, though I believe I'm one of the, er... more mature individuals 'round these parts. If I did have children, though, I probably would not be editing at all - no time for it. Not sure I'd have time to watch anime, either; if I did, I would certainly be watching different stuff than my child would be allowed to. It is an interesting twist of fate that - as a kid - "Smurfs" was really pushing the limits of what my parents mother would allow me to watch (Smurfs lived in quite a violent, fantasy world!) and I've latched onto anime as a result. I know I would be extremely cautious about what my own kids would be allowed to watch, however, and I suspect I would not be the lenient type.

I will state that my dog hates anime and AMVs, however. This is firstly because anytime I'm involved with those things, it means she's being "neglected," and secondly because she has a passionate fear/hatred of the classic high-pitched female voices in most series. As a side note, for some reason the dog barking heard in some anime series is the ONLY barking on TV she ever reacts to. Dogs in Japan (or people pretending to be dogs in Japan) seem to really strike a nerve.

No kids, but 7 siblings. None of them are into it, but each of them have their own "thing" anyway (hunting, girls, fashion, singing, dolls, cars and bikes). Meh. To each their own. Kids are rarely ever exactly like their parents, so don't be disappointed if they don't care about it. I know I was a massive disappointment because I didn't like football, and my father was a state football legend apparently.

But more on topic...

Honestly, I feel like stuff like Cardcaptor Sakura, Kiki's Delivery Service, Sailor Moon, Fruits Basket, Pokemon, Digimon, Kaleido Star, and many others teach valuable moral lessons. Respect for elders, friendship, growing up, caring for others, believing in oneself, reaching for dreams and all kinds of other stuff.

So yeah, I'd be fine with my younger kids watching things like that.

But they don't get to watch stuff like High School of the Dead until either they get good enough to hide their stuff from me, or turn 18, whichever comes first.
