What?! You're not a girl?!?! :asd:

No means no! Stop hitting on me! <.<

Haha, I would certainly take that trade. Its perplexing though that anyone thinks the name Ileia sounds masculine in the first place.

Back on topic though, I've actually encountered a lot of geeking out over other editors from people who are both really into AMVs and some who just know a few AMVs. I have a friend who showed me Scintilla's Dueling Videos: Under Ice AMV way back when I was still in college and it was one of his favorite AMVs. I mentioned how I just saw Scintilla (didn't get to meet him though) at AWA and he flipped out about it and how he thinks he is legendary.

To be honest, I was geeking out a little at AWA just seeing all these different editors. When Zarxrax started talking to me at first I was like holy shit, is this the guy who that x264GUI is named after!?! maybe I should give him a hug for making my compression/encoding needs easier. To my wife and brother I pointed out a bunch of people and was like "oh man, I think thats Ileia and Copycat over there" and "Snap, I think thats Vlad" lol. I was also super happy when I first arrived at the editor's meetup and I said who I was, and I think it was Kireblue who was like "I know who you are!" That made my day, cause I was thinking holy Kireblue knows who I am and he makes some awesome stuff! I hope to be back next year and take Pilk's suggestion and get a lot more mingling in though. :P

For the most part though, a lot of the geeking out seems to happen behind the scenes since its hard to know what most editors even look like unless they're super hardcore stalkers and found the picture thread on the org or something similar.

I think a more interesting question would be: who actually wants to be famous for editing AMVs? :uhoh:

I think the closest thing I've got to a story like this was the AWA I was presented with a can of Tuna. (I think it was my second or third AWA) O.o I'm sure the guy was another editor but I totally don't remember who he was (at least his sn or something like that, sorry!! :() but it was really sweet, and I remember the whole scene. I also think I remember before it happened I overheard someone pointing out who I was "that's the girl who made that tuna video". I still have the can on my desk. (This happened in a hotel room filled with editors.)

It also helps for you to get recognized if you put your screen name or "production logo" on your shirt if you want people to know who you are. I also think it helps things to be less awkward instead of people trying to stand around and trying to guess who everyone is.

I also got a can of Tuna from Deshi. More like one of those tuna meal things (I think it got eaten though).

on the other hand:
I totally fangirl'd (in my own way) when I met Dokidoki XD, but I think we were both just too shy to make a conversation. Not to mention my friends kinda pushed me into talking to him. O:

and I remember my friends commissioning Ileia some quick fanart and fanboying/fangirling at her for a minute as well O: She seemed more awkward over it though. O:

The first time I met Zarxrax more awkward times happened, lol. No one knew what to talk about and he just kinda said something like "I gotta go" and walked away. We were all "omg we just got dissed by Zarx!" lol.

But all three of those were stories from my first AWA. My brain was fangirling the whole time I think. After you get over the excitement of editors at AWA, it seems more like a friend meet-up for the most part, because we all hang out with each other.

I haven't really had much time since to go to cons... Not much happens at the local cons because they shove all the amvs on to Thursday. Their excuse is that they need some kind of draw for Thursday so they use amvs. (They hold 4 day conventions here for some reason.)

We can trade, you can have all the people that think I'm a dude.

Mine too! At least your nick sounds feminine, Ileia. I've learned over the years that roots are - apparently - inherently masculine. :? You'd think people wouldn't assume stuff like this anymore...female AMV editors are far more common nowadays than they were back in the day (which was a Friday, wait, no, a Wednesday?).

On topic: There's a big difference between "fame" and just having people appreciate a video you've made. I've got my favorite AMVs, all right, but I can't imagine falling over with excitement at being in the presence of the AMV editors who made them. If I was compelled to walk up to them and say anything, it would be to congratulate them on a job well done...not exclaim over the opportunity of simply meeting them.

Well, I think some people get confused because they imagine the name "Ilya". I've had people (mostly substitute teachers...) see my name on a list and assume I was a Russian male or some such.
And also, no girls on the internet, etc. >_>

And I remember that fanart, Jaddzia. And, yes, it was awkward. It was my first con ever, I was a little...um...for lack of a better word, "starstruck" by a lot of the editors there, so I couldn't possibly fathom why someone would give that to me....and come to think of it, I think my ex still has it! >:O

Aside from being recognized by fellow editors, I tend to get recognized at cons by random people saying they love my videos and such. I even signed someone's Resident Evil 4 once. 8-) :awesome:

no stress XD it was our first con where we got to meet editors other than our (at the time) small group of friends XD so it was fairly awkward for us too.

Don't worry, we joked about it for a minute or two, but we didn't take anything personally.

At the AWA editor's dinner gathering this year, I remember thinking "hey, I think I know just about everybody here" and then I spotted Shin & friends and was like "don't know these guys!" I was pleased to meet you guys, your vids are all really awesome. .....and people think I'm a girl due to my nick most of the time as well -__-

I remember when I first met Ileia/Fall_Child42/Kit/Niotex/Koop and folks and was honestly surprised at how well known they were online. I knew them from the IRC channel, so it was interesting that every once in awhile I'd be talking about AMVs to random people and they'd have the "OH MY GOD YOU KNOW <insert editor name here>" and I'd get to go "yeah, I hang out with them a few times a year!"

I got asked for an autograph once. It was because a girl really liked Yotsuba and she saw daydream. It was pretty surreal since I was new to AMVs at the time and had just released the vid.

I've had some interesting encounters due to Ponies the Anthology, which has gotten insane hits on YT. I know it's a popular fandom right now, but I'm still kind of in awe of it and how just a fun project between a few friends has turned into a monster. Our panel at AWA was packed. I stopped and talked to various cosplayers and people, and there were a few moments where people went "OH MY GOD" when I told them who I was. It was awesome meeting and talking with those folks.

I've always made the stuff I make because I wanted to, but having people really like it is a nice added bonus :D

I've had that happen a few times myself. Though more often then not I'll get glomped, hugged, people want to shake my hands, ect. when they find out who I was. For some reason I'm really popular when it comes to this area (and not because they know I work for Youmacon either...) Mostly I'm known for the Dance series.

I remember some kid came up to you when we were going for food at the food court a few years back at AWA. That was rather interesting to see.
