I've had some people squee at me when they find me on youtube and for whatever reasons about half those people assume I'm a girl. :/ Regardless I usually enjoy talking about AMVs if I have some time.

Fame are any of us really famous? I mean its a 3rd tier hobby at best. Vid editions relatively new more people know about things like masquerading or fan fiction because these things have been going on much longer.

I Think mabye Brad Demoss might be the most famous of us and even then i view hat as more so because he's done thinks like host AX masquerade.

While vids may be popular the creators arent. When we get posted on another side there's very little about who made it. Cosplay and Masquerading don't have as much of a problem with this since an authors name is at the start of their work usually and the costumed person is the one wearing it.

TO put it another way think of films. Do we know who directed every film we watch? Now think of every book or actor out there you know who's in the movie and you know who wrote the book.

That's probably a bad comparison. Well it is for me at least. I follow directors far more closely than actors or actresses.

Awww, I think you're famous. YOU'RE THAT GUY FROM MILK BAGS!

Me? Never had that at a con. Online, I'll get a few people who are like "Oh, you're THAT Ileia!", but nothing too crazy. Although, I do have random weirdos online who pretend that I was their "master" and that I helped them with their video. But that's just downright creepy. D:

I think back in like... 2003-2004, I was talking to some guy in my Japanese class at college, and it came up that I make amvs, and I mentioned the names of a couple of them, and then the guy freaked out :|
He was like "OMG NO WAY I CANT BELIEVE IT WAS YOU WHO MADE THAT, I LOVE THAT VIDEO OMG"
And I was like...
"..........ooookay........"

I've been asked for autographs before - on multiple occasions. Really creepy feeling.

Yeah for those of us who care about the process your going to know the director, my point was that while their are famous directors you don't know/care that much about who directed every movie you see. Or even worse when a titles marketed as to make it look like it was made by someone else. Henry Selick should be alot better known since he directed the nightmare before christmas but it's tim burtons name that's plastered all over it so more people associate him with it. Once again i'm not saying you i'm saying the concept of fame as that a person is famous for some sort of action/creation. Less is cared about on the people behind the scenes then the people in them.

Actually i guess if i had to compare AMVs to any area of movie making it would have to be scores. They too are people who deal with something that's pre-composed (the edit) and have to make something which complements it (the score) not to many outside of a few are well known.

Somebody in my anime club knew me for my work, but only because I mentioned I made AMVs, and they made the connection from my username. Although it wasn't any real big thing other than "You had some nice stuff on youtube!" and 'got any other good ones you can share?", which is how I ended up coordinating our AMV segments for each club meeting.

Although after I joined Re-Evolution, I had a few more people start contacting me though YouTube for MEP projects and just general talking that led to a few nice Skype friendships. :)

Hopefully one day I can have the money to go to one of the bigger anime cons and meet some of you. I definitely want to hit up AWA at some point. This fall is probably the first time that's plausible to happen.
