I've lost track, but if you want to consider my indie anime an "amv" of sorts, then a lot. I just placed a $1k order for audio gear, and in the coming year I'm buying ~$5k of software. Add that to what I've spent already on rigs and software and dvds and monitors and a TV and... I'm thinking in the neighborhood of $20-30K since joining the org.

Upper guess of around $5K for multiple systems, source, etc. If you want to bring con expenses into it, it's a bit more, but i'm not trying to game an expense report, so no reason to get that specific.

$79.00 in donations and about $100 for Magix MEP Pro 11 and 14. Thinking about upgrading Magix, though.

$20 for a DVD that I normally wouldn't own for the purpose of making an AMV and whatever AWA costs me this year. Other than that, I use equipment and software that I got for other reasons, so I don't count that at all.

yea... that was spent from 2000 to 2004... so over a period of about 4 years...
The expensive things
AG-DS555
AG-DS545
7 different Pro Grade time based correctors (used... but still not cheap, after the AS-1980 we had broke a video submission we had to get a TBC)
Targa1000 and dedicated computer for it (My first capture system)
Targa3000 and dedicated computer for this (this one had a SCSI raid array for capturing and was bought to make full use of the DS545 and 555 component)
Pinnacle Systems DV500 and dedicated computer for this (used to capture at conventions live)
Multiple video server computers (12 drive raid array computers... these were never cheap... one was donated to me, i gave that one to phade)
Custom ATA certified 22U portable rack mount (you really don't want to know the price of this one)
A dozen Netstream2000 cards (these were brand new at the time)
4 Shuttle PCs build just for convention playback with the NS2Ks in them
MicroPC build around a NS2K (why is it that the smaller the computer, the more it costs?)
Aluminum Pilot Case (Custom case that could hold two shuttles, and still be a carry on for an airplane)

Again... this was just the expensive things.. anything over $300

I bought my current triple core expressly for the case of an added core (couldn't afford a quad core at the time :/) for editing. It's been 2 years I've yet to edit anything on it. I bought another HD for RAID (expressly for editing), haven't even installed it yet. that's at least 200 dollars right there totally wasted, I'll never get that back... and yet I still don't install my HD :/

I've bought a raptor drive expressly for my hobby (AMVs not porn... if I wanted porn I'd buy a 1tb drive duh)
I've bought tons of video capture devices trying to find one with composite in (that's not copy protected)
I've bought DVDs I didn't even watch just to pull clips for AMVs, music CDs too.

I'd be much richer if not for the FUN I'm having now :)

AMD sells some triple core... which was basically a quad core where one of the core's failed its tests... so instead of trashing the entire chip they disable that core and sell it at a discount.

I just might be up there that high as well... Mind you, most of my spendign is on all the AMV Con stuff I do... On just a plain hobby level of stuff needed to make AMVs I can't really say as it's all mixed up int he stuff I use for cons too

I've always dreamed of being a universally-recognised household name in the anime community as I slowly build up to elaborate digitally-festooned AMVs, but... good grief, I can't keep up with all this! While I've bought plenty of other anime goods, the only purchases I've made specifically for the purpose of furthering AMV creation are copies of Sony Vegas Platinum (my main editing program) and Photoshop Elements (which i use pretty much just to cut out lip-flaps and razor fanart for my credit sequences); plus arguably a copy of Ren & Stimpy, which I didn't really have any interest in watching but needed in order to rip dialogue from "Space Madness" for an AMV Minis skit of mine. Add in a couple of donations to this site and that doesn't amount to more than 350 of your Von Amerikkan Dhollaz. I can do no more than meekly bow to the manifest supremacy of those who will invest thousands in the hobby!
