But what Nya said, I've considered remaking another person's video, with or without permission, just for the reason that it was an awesome idea and I want to see it with updated source material and slight tweaks. (mainly I used to think of reworking 'Tainted Donuts,' because the editing and story are amazing, but there are just little things with the compositing that rub my obsessive compulsive side the wrong way) Obviously there's nothing in that case to really 'improve' but technical things and resolution, and obviously in that situation you don't claim it as your own, but add the "I loved this video by x SOO MUCH that I wanted to do a remake-tribute video style thing. This is not my editing, it is simply a reconstruction of an existing video and a tribute to editor x who inspired us all."
or something

Though it's kind of considered bad policy to directly rip someone else's video to use as source for your own. In the end we're all just remixers and remixing a remix is normal.
Though this issue has been brought up before.

I've been thinking of doing that, but I take more pride in coming up with my own ideas.

Then again, I honestly don't see any issue in what you're asking. I mean... Stealing the effects from Skittles would be blatantly wrong, but stealing an overused scene in every anime known to man would be fine.
