Zipping AMV:s?

Postby Simpi » Sun Feb 09, 2003 10:40 am

Hello.

I have an ready AMV that I would like to put up. Currently it's size is 63.9m and after I pack it with Zip/rar, it's size is still 61m.

Problem is that I have 49.5m available space after I remove my current AMV from web. Does anybody know if some program (I know there are several) is especially good for packing Mpeg:s so I could make it small enough.

You can reply to this forum or as private message.

Thanks in advance.

You can't compress already compressed data. It just doesn't work. You may gain a few megabytes. But not much.

Your best bet is to re-encode your file. Preferably with something that allows for filesize control, such as XviD. You can check out ErMaC + AD's guide off the main page for info on doing this.

Plus, XviD files tend to be smaller than MPEGS anyway, if you don't load up on the filters.

Just sacrifice some video clarity to reduce the file size :? that's really the only viable option in your case :(

Wrong. If you use filters, the XviD's are smaller than they normally would be.

I can't remember what I was doing, but I was using some filters to improve the image clarity in one of my vids, and it added to the file size. Not much, just a little, but it still added.

Yes, I like XviD!!

One 2:00 video compressed with mpg and xvid. They look the same and run the same...
The mpg version is 16.3 megs and the xvid version is 13.9 megs.
And I had tons of filters going on in the xvid version!
Teh good stuff!! *thumbs up*

The data is allready compressed so zipping it won't do much at all. Also since you are only zipping one file it won't make much of a difference anyway. If I am correct in my guess, you are using a 50megs.com account, if so don't bother to upload. 50megs has a terrible upload rate that limits you on the file size regardless of how much space they give you.
