Re: AMVs for money?

2 years ago, I was receiving money for broadcasting some of my amvs in a local channel. In my country amvs arent famous, so originally the purpose was to promote them. But once I started to receive money, I felt like my imagination was leaving me. That was a horrible year for me: 3 amvs in 1 year and none of them of my taste.

So my friend , as you can see in the crow's comments, it's a bad idea to receive money for amvs

What do you think?

Someone has edited AMVs to make money?

I completely agree. Once you turn your hobby into a job for profit, it will slowly become less and less enjoyable. Also, if the guy really likes the girl, then he should try to make the AMV. It would mean absolutely nothing if he pays you to do it.

As long as you don't make thousands of dollars and announce it to the world, nobody will really care.

Actually my friend, an amv editor called RealNahaj made his first amv in a similar way "if the guy really likes the girl, then he should try to make the AMV"

That's just a no go.

Winning money from a contest (lot's of russian contests offer money as prices) is fine in my eyes.

I would edit for money, but only trailer amvs for companies.

Imho godix is right, handmade isn't always better - sometimes it's just useless crap you have to display to appease the gift giver. However sometimes "store bought" can be just as useless.

When giving someone anything, you should think about what they would like, what would make the receiver happy. If you can't make it yourself, there is no shame in paying for it.

Perhaps the guy doesn't know anything about making amvs, and sees that megamom has talent for it. I'd take it as a high compliment that someone is willing to pay you.

I don't like the idea of receiving money for making an amv or fanvideo, even from a contest (trophies/bragging rights are good enough for me) due to the legal complications. Even gift certificates are pushing it imho.

However, I've made several requests in my time. They aren't as fun as doing my own ideas (ohgawd Jonas shoot me!) but I guess because I was never on a set schedule I was never under any real pressure or anything it didn't suck all the fun out of it. I still liked seeing the results, even if they aren't my own ideas. Requests are fun things to do to fill time between big projects.

[edit] I really shouldn't try to talk/type when I first wake up...

Yes, because women hate it when you buy them jewelry instead of hand making it, take them to a play instead of acting it out yourself in the living room, take them to a fancy dinner instead of cooking BLTs for her, purchase a good painting for a gift instead of drawing stick figures, etc. Gifts that aren't handmade obviously don't impress the womenz at all...

sarcasm huh?
you got it all wrong. There are 2 types of gifts (monetary and sentimental). Jewelry and paintings both have a stand alone monetary value. That's why people pay money for them. But gifts like hand knitted sweaters, AMVs are monetarily worthless. They are sentimental and are meant to let the receipt know that the giver cares for them enough to spend hours making something for them. Paying money for something monetarily worthless and giving is to your girlfriend with the idea that its sentimental doesn't work at all. Even if she likes the AMV, she probably wouldn't treasure it nearly as much as one actually made by her boyfriend.

I remember a couple of years ago, dokool made a video for the winner of a charity auction. While he didn't get the money, somebody did pay, what was it, $50? $100 for an AMV?

No, the reason you never bring your girlfriends is that they'd be jealous of the attention you'd be giving Brad.
