I once had someone ask me if he could steal my amv. He asked me if i could modify it so it says "dedicated to <girlfriend's name>" at the beginning.
I thought it was so hilarious that I actually did it.

You know what would be awesome?

If I could use YouTube to steal bread.

Had a joke for this but cannot find the video............

Had a recent vid stolen, pointed it out to the person and they gave me credit and I let it go. The stolen vid now has 2,000 more views than my own.

This thread is an example of a dead horse people keep beating. It's happened to most of us. There is nothing you can do. Consider it a compliment someone is so enamored by your work they want to take credit for it and move on.

if nobody ever posted these topics then this whole subforum would be dead.

you could always add a quick watermark or something over the center of it, but that sort of takes away from the work you've done doesn't it?

Not that anyone is likely to steal my vids, but I often post them (before the full release) on another youtube account just to see how youtube reacts - I'm tired of losing my main account. I'll watermark and/or timecode the whole thing, and render it lower quailty/framesize.

Paranoia runs deep in me.

I really don't care about theft of any kind UNLESS the person submits it to a convention (which has happened). Then I get upset.

There are people out there who go for the instant gratification thing, sure, but don't let that disrupt how you create your own work. In a recent trollpost on one of Khams videos, which created some problems, I equated it to video game DRM. When prevention is getting in the way of enjoyability for your audience, you're doing wrong. As such, most of my videos don't even have credits, nor do they have my name in them anywhere. If people want to steal it and feel a little bit better about themselves, they're always welcome to. I create what I create because I enjoy the process of making it and seeing my own creativity on display. THAT feeling is more rewarding than the gratification of receiving criticisms on the final thing, and always will be.

I've yet to see a stolen video win a million dollars or an Oscar, so I just don't pay any attention to it and instead direct all my attention and efforts into my work. People can (and will) keep doing what they want regardless.

We made the mistake of making too many damn Inu Yasha videos, so there are a ton of rips on YouTube where people are claiming to have made them. The one that really baffles me is that in order to get around our watermark, someone went to all the trouble to remake one of our videos, using the exact same song timed to the exact same footage, just re-ripped. If you're going to go to that kind of trouble, why not make a whole new, original video of your own? Even better, for that particular video, I wrote a short opening, which they copied almost word for word, but when they were attacked by 'haterz', they claimed they had never seen our video before, and our two videos played out EXACTLY the same, just by coincidence, according to them.

I find it amusing they already deleted and reuploaded the video twice, and comments are now screened, due to 'haterz'. They want to make sure only the asspats get through.

Weeaboos reposting vids on YouTube as their own work is trivial. I've encountered someone who stole a person's AMV and submitted it to a competition as if it were their own.

During the pre-judging for AX09's AMV competition, there was a vid I liked that didn't get in, so I decided to look up the original creator on here and give a word of praise. Their reaction was "while your comment was nice, it confused me a little because I have not entered this in any competitions".

Ahh, the extent these little tweeny/teeny brats will go to enlarge the size of their e-penis.

You encountered it; I had it happen to one of my videos. The only real thing the conventions can do is ban that person from ever submitting to the contest again.
