Popular doesn't mean influential, Spoil was part of a trend not the start of one. Whisper of the Beast, for example, is earlier and clearly a similar style. And even then, WotB wasn't the start of the emo grunge pointless effect whore trend.

I'm surprised after 5 years it hasn't been duplicated. The closest thing to a short film on this site.

If it hasn't been duplicated, then how has it been influential?

It was so influential that it scared other editors from attempting to copy it. :P

WotB isn't a very similar style to Spoil, so I don't see why you'd place them in the same category. They had a lot of effects but their way of using them was very different. Then again WotB was what got me into editing so my opinion's probably a bit biased.
Also, wasn't Die Another Day pretty influential for earlier AE editors?

If you mean the Noir video, I almost included it. But my reasoning would have been because it went on the Noir release, right?

DDR may have started the video game music MEP (and MEPs in general), but the NES Project was the first to combine old school games with anime using remixes of the game music itself.

For me Dokidoki, Kusoyaro and Aluminum Studios were my starting points...

Kusoyaro and Dokidoki for the reasons Kio discussed.

I know that due to Aluminum Studios not doing videos for the other sailor scouts several people made their own videos for them. I'd definitely call those videos influential. They were definitely influential in getting me hooked on amvs.

I'd also consider AMVHell to be pretty influential - they really popularized blipvert amvs, and total random nonsense. This also probably helped to influence contests like WTF and Short Attention Span.

Yeah yeah, and Avatar is nothing like Ferngully, Lindsay Lohan is totally different from Paris Hilton, Keitaro from Love Hina has nothing similar to Tenchi Muyo, McDonalds and Burger King have nothing in common, and red isn't even close to the same as scarlet.

Pwolf wrote:What would you consider an influential AMV? what amvs made changes happen in the amv community? I think a lot of us attribute Euphoria to starting the "random geometry/effects" trend. I think AMV Hell started the "AMV Hell type videos" trend. These videos don't have to be good and they don't have to be the first one to do it. What are some videos that were influential over the past 10 years and why do you think they made a big impact on the community as a whole (good or bad).

If you can think of one before 2000, let me know also.

Is this the part where I say "Mitternacht?" :P

This 2002 VCA winner really started the "making fun of AMV editing" thing

and in turn influenced this 2007 VCA winner

and in turn influenced this 2011 VCA winner to be.

Each took it a step further then the other.
