Games unlike films are interactive and the picture you see is computed 'on the fly'. There's no living person involved in adjusting focus so unless there will be some sort of a device (camera) tracking what part of the screen you're looking at (like in advanced military airplanes,) you will always have eyestrain from 3D in games. From my experience 'automated' 3d doesn't work well.
Prototypes work really good. I hope they can make it work with Kinect. At least this guy is in the Kinect project:
