I have been planning some music videos that I would like to shoot in the future. When I have time and a working camera. Been wanting to put together a demo reel as well.

Yeah, I've also worked for clients who told me I couldn't use any of their footage for my demo reel and that they retained all the rights to them.

People in the industry are anal bastards, I tell you.

This is why I don't have a demo reel. My political ads were all like that, and the masters for my other work are on SVHS tape and probably buried somewhere in a closet at the TV Station.

I've obviously been interested in the industry for a while.

I've done some small things here and there. Ranging from shooting short films and music video's in college. To composting shots for music video's for a small production company around here. I've helped Johnathan Reeds [Metro] with a few commercial's he's worked on. I have in the past had an opportunity to take up a internship at MTV Netherlands but had to turn that down. Currently waiting to hear back from another production house.

Everything I used to have I've gotten rid of purely because I wasn't satisfied with it myself. Which looking back was really stupid. I'll check around with some people from college if they still have some of our work up.

Most people flock to editing but I myself am vastly more interested in composting. So that is what I'm hoping to expand on as apposed to what I've done with my past educational institutes.

We talked about this at AX, and I honestly think you'll get more money in compositioning work. It's actually hard to impress clients with standard editing, which is why people in the industry actually love amvs and original composite work.

This is true, as much as it sucks (especially now) the TV station manager was pretty impressed in 2001 when I showed him Utena (Story of a Girl). It was just straight cuts, and the quality is crap (lots of beginner mistakes), but it showed the ability to do something "outside of the box." He taught me a lot of what I know, and was a great mentor in general.

He's now a baptist preacher, of all things, and we keep in touch. I send him my new videos.

My grandfather wont stop bugging me to walk up to the movie companies that are moving into the area and seeing if I can find a job doing editing, composting, or whatever video type work that they need. I haven't done a lot of research on the studios, but I doubt any of them are going to do said work in the area, or very little. Either way though, I'm interested I just don't know if I really want to do this for a living. It's fun, I enjoy it, and I feel great that members of my family who don't like anime in general enjoy my work and feel I could do it for real, I just don't know if I want to take that plunge entirely yet. That and if I made a demo reel right now all I'd have to put on it is my AMVs and a few LAMVs. From what I remember in talks about demo reels with others you really should have more then just that.

Yes! I actually started out with editing short movies before doing AMVs - in contrast with most of the people who posted here. That's actually where my interest is at and AMVs were just practice for me. I'm intending to focus more on short films and documentaries for now, AMV-times are over for me I guess...

The short movie I was involved with and liked the most, "Save It For a Rainy Day" can be found on Vimeo: http://vimeo.com/6526189 . Just keep in mind I had no idea about effects and all that jazz and I animated the intro learning Flash overnight. Man, I should to use Cinema 4D to remake the intro! :D

Interesting to see what people have done besides their AMVs. ;)

And I disagree with megamom - music videos are easier to do than film/programs. There is no "direction" in film/programs as there is in music videos, for example the pacing: you have to direct the pacing instead of following it.

Douggie understand you but it depends... the three TV programs that I edit was easy make, I just did the editing (post-production) production was done by the other members of staff! For my first short documentary, the work was exhausting for me (I did everything from directing, script, editing, use the camera... etc), but technically it was very easy to do, I'm planning what will be my first short film, and will have a larger difficulty level, because many people need to organize.

I think this independent productions, is like the AMVs... started from a low pelfil and thanks to the experience we gained we can do things better and even better, right now

I'm on the bottom, I do not have much experience yet, I hope to gain more experience.

PS: I liked his short... very original about the elevator! :o

There isn't really an filming classes or the like on campus. There is the campus station though. I will need to look into it more. My school is more into engineering then the arts. But then again I wonder if I have any pull on UofM's main campus as a UofM Dearborn student... I'll have to look into that.

Oh, that reminds me. For those of you who don't follow Revision3 there is a video podcast they do called Film Riot. I find it great fun and informative about tricks and tips of doing effects and things with film. Their home built dolly, jib, and stiff arm and their DSLR for film segments were very informative I thought. It comes out on Thursdays generally. If your into filming or just want to learn some of the tricks that go into filming, editing, composting, and effects then I think you should check it out. It's rather violent though.

I'm interested in film mainly because many concepts behind it are transferable to different forms of media. If you're into CGI and want to make a good AMV it's very helpful to understand aesthetics of film.

These are some of my very early works (2007):

They're made pretty much the same way you would make a normal music video: script, choreography, story board, environments, characters, animation (acting), camera.

It's only a hobby. I'm pretty successful in doing something else and wouldn't want to work in the industry. The money is crap, people are narcissistic and shallow.

I love your SOS video! x] I think that's really neat. Also I agree with you on the shallow/narcissistic people thing I am still deciding what I want to do and well I might not want to become part of the film industry just because of the people..(but then again there are shallow/arrogant people in every field xD)

I Just graduated from High Skoo. All four years, I was enrolled in a multimedia film and video production program called MeneMAC. We used Final Cut Pro, Adobe After Effects, Photoshop and LiveType for lower-thirds (I prefer Motion 3), and whatever we discovered ourselves, we would bring it back to the colony (so-to-speak).

Check out Vimeo, search menemac and look for Bottle Ninjas; I made that PSA in 90 minutes. Although the audio could've been better.

It's short, it's silly. I filmed it and edited it. I'm not in it, but I match the basic description of my star.
