Ethically speaking...

Postby anurok » Fri Aug 13, 2010 12:58 pm

I have just finished all of FMA: Brotherhood and fell in love with the series all over again. The last video I made was...2 years ago I think but watching this series makes me want to make a video for it. I am going to start watching it again.

However, i want to be able to do it with raws of course and Blu-ray/DVD rips. However, I have the first 26 episodes ordered on blu-ray but I don't think they come with DVD copies or raws to put on my PC. I won't find out until they come in, but I know that since the series is not done in the US the rest of it won't be released to us until later, much later this year.

Is it taboo to acquire them elsewhere while I wait for release? Gah, this is frustrating. A series this grand and they can't release it fast enough.

If we can't tell then who cares? You can't ask where to download stuff publicly, but a lot of editors use RAWs and shit.

Ethically speaking, there's a difference between you won't get stuff legally and you can't get stuff legally. That being said, you can rip blu-ray's, although it requires different programs than ripping DVDs.

Everybody does it...
If you're worried about downloading ethically, download it now and just buy it when (if) it's released.

Ethics aside - downloaded footage = less control over the quality of the footage...

Actually i think the majority of people here believe editing/publishing to be morally right, i THINK so, anyway. So that's why they encourage buying DVDs, so that nothing morally criminal is associated with us.
If an editor pays for everything he uses and gives full credit to all the creative owners then i think it's hard for the average person to call us criminal, except by greedy copyright owners.
So if we give credit, then the act of editing and publishing our videos alone is not piracy.

Go ahead with your ethics, i applaud you.

As if having US remastered DVDs could guarantee that ;___;
