Just to play devil's advocate, would you pick the food that was alot better prepared/presented or the food that tastes alot better for a real IC if you judged?
If I was supposedly supposed to judged based on quality and presentation, then yes. I would. If I was picking on what I thought tasted best, well, hope you didn't use liver in your recipe since I hate that no matter how good of a cook you are.
To discard the analogy and go back to IC judging, I don't like action videos. I do like lighthearted upbeat type vids. Now imagine if I were judging an IC. One person does an action video which has brilliant editing, great timing, and impressive skills. I recognize the effort and talent in it, but I don't enjoy it because I just don't like action videos that much. The other person puts together a sloppy poorly timed and barely edited lighthearted upbeat vid where I recognize the flaws but like it anyway just because I enjoy dance vids. Now, which of the two would you hope a decent judge would pick?
Incidentally, that's not entirely a made up example. It comes from an IC within the last week where I was one of the judges. The difference in editing quality wasn't extreme like I just presented, they were actually close enough it was a kinda tough call. One was fairly straightforward actiony editing, the other tried for a more lighthearted upbeat feel. I preferred the upbeat type vid because I just don't like action. However, I choose the action like vid as winner because I thought it matched the song better and was slightly better edited. My biases should be only my concern, the editors involved shouldn't have to worry about pandering to my taste.
