A useful link:
The Vividcon Video Database

Apparently, AD is responsible for creating this d/b.

And how does that fit in this topic...? The other had live footage in it, this is just pure FF7 which according to the rules here, is fine.

The rules concerning games annoy me. -_-

Live-action vidding is much less centralized, and there is less consensus regarding "all-time hits" across all live-action fandoms, and most convention do not give awards. (Some Creation-run cons, and Media*West are the exceptions). If there is a specific tv/movie source that you are interested in, it would be a little bit easier to come up with a list, but it still wouldn't be definitive. (It's much easier, as an outsider, to navigate a-m-v.org and find the amvs that have buzz, that are well-regarded, that have won awards, which I appreciate.)

Many of the better live-action vidders have started to provide streaming versions of their vids on imeem, as a way to have a more centralized and more accessible (and more public) presence. Imeem and the "vidding" livejournal (and the "vidder" yahoo group) are the closest things we have to centralized spaces. Many a vidder below also list her website on her imeem profile, so if you want a permanent copy of any of these vids, check the profile.

Here is a list of some vids that were well-received at Vividcon. (That they were well received at Vividcon is a fact. But Vividcon is not the only face of the live-action vidding community, just the one that I am most familiar with, and this is a personal list of easily available vids and in no way definitive. A few that I would have included are either not on imeem or no longer online at all, due to unwanted boingboing/slashdot attention.)

Meta vid about 30 years of vidding:

Meta vid about fannishness:

Comedy

http://wickedwords.imeem.com/video/M68Nuvjf/sga_stress/

http://crazygrrl.imeem.com/video/Bm4UMz ... gedisease/

And, okay, I am biased here, but it did get a fantastic reception at Vividcon:

Drama/Serious

Vids with lots of buzz, but not from Vividcon

http://astarte.imeem.com/video/x3Xkx0Hd/spn_tobeaghost/

http://bradcpu.imeem.com/video/yVwY4UDc ... gdeadgirl/

http://sublim.imeem.com/video/LQU2ToIY/us/

http://shati.imeem.com/video/ELmvZ6dC/b ... okensongs/

And here is a thread where the vidding community itself is suggesting "classic" or "representative" or "accessible" vids for the DIY Video summit being held in 2008.

http://community.livejournal.com/vidding/1035085.html

There is some overlap between the vids I list above and the LJ discussion, but the LJ discussion is largely an "insider" conversation and doesn't usually include information about where to download or stream the vids. (If there is a vid on this list that you want to see but can't track down, let me know and I will find a link.)

I hope that someone finds that helpful. Vidders have only been using imeem for about 6 months, so the "view" counts aren't always indicative of how popular a vid is, and the vidders have not always uploaded their vids in chronological order. And the date on the imeem post may be years off as far as when the vid was made. But imeem is accessible, and it's the easiest place to point people.
