I guess me and my fellow tolkien friends quizzing and talking for 4 hours about the entire middle earth history is pretty geeky if you ask me...but very fun!!

yeah middle earth is so cool and well, the matrix (and super hero's) are the new geek chic, in other words, middle earth is in the past, thats where it sould stay, along with text based games, dungeons and dragons, and computers with 1bit colour (meaning black and white and, and thats it). oh and, i havent seen any of the movies and im not planing to, and i havent read the books iether (id prefer to read a masterpiece by the great george orwell, the best damn author ever). though to be frank, i do love the technical side of the movies (mainly massive, the game used to greate the war scene's in the movies. its simply one fucking amazing group of 1's and 0's , and its damn sexy to boot)

Eh... The Silmarillion was okay, but not terribly interesting (thinking about it, it reminds me of old Greek histories in terms of structure--Herodotus and Thucydites, in particular). The thing I really like about Tolkien, though, is the existence of The Silmarillion. Middle Earth had a very detailed history. It even had its own mythology, bits of which creep up in The Lord of the Rings. Heck, there are bits of Middle Earth in Roverandom, a childrens' book about a dog which he wrote for one of his sons--it has nothing whatsoever to do with hobbits or rings or anything of the sort; it's a children's fantasy set in the modern world (well, modern when he wrote it in the '30's), and yet it talks about the land beyond the sea where the Elves went...

Tolkien was a genius.
