It's a place to announce other videos that are self hosted. We have a thread for it, therefore it's obviously acceptable in the eyes of the admins/mods. So rather than have a thread that we have to search through PAGES and PAGES to find a video, why not have a fucking forum to announce these videos? There will be no hosting here, and I'm sure it would be heavily modded. I'm even willing to mod it myself.

The thread probably shouldn't exist outside of the OT forum to be completely honest. It's off topic so should rightly be in the place where the other off topic discussions go. I don't understand what's so difficult to understand about that. It seems pretty straight forward to me.

Jesus Christ Bashar you have such a one track mind. In this case, let's get rid of the avisynth forum. This is a-m-v.org not ENCODANFAG.ORG. Yeah, AviSynth has to do with video, but not amv's specifically. Just like other forms of video relate to editing and videos, but not anime in specific. Seriously, you take this shit way too literally.

Fucking case and point. That is not the same thing and mirks post doesn't disprove it in any way.

Now, what does live action have anything to do with these? kthxbai.

mirkosp wrote:Except the video section isn't intended as in "videos" in general, but as in video under a technological side of things. As in the editing seen under the light of bringing anime and music together. So yes, live action doesn't have anything to do with the video section.

I don't know but that seems to make perfect sense to me :nose:

Joey, if you want to treat anime properly, you need to use avisynth. Otherwise you'll fuck it up alright or at the very least it won't come out as good as it could. However, I don't really think you need to use your live action footage to make sure your AMV comes off properly. Stop trying to bend logic to what suits you best.

I'm not bending logic. Anime does not fucking NEED avisynth. It is not a necessity. If you want to argue that it is for basic resize and deinterlace, then I could argue the same thing for live action. Get the fuck off my dick, mirk.

That's making the purpose of the sites existence "thing's that can be deinterlaced by avisynth." As cool as it'd be to have a section for live action vids, this line of logic is dead.

Maybe expanding the site's manifesto could work after amvs alone can't support it us, but that won't be for a long time and we need to accept that that's what it'd take.

I realize, but my whole point here is that we shouldn't be using that argument at all, for anime either.

just kidding.

nobody's gonna agree on how relevant lamvs are to this site so forget about it
but there's virtually no harm in it. there are benefits, and there are upsides, the only downsides i see stem from fear and conservatism (mostly conservatism) and the only upsides stem from friendship and growth...amirong?

You know... With the arguments regarding "what is anime" in the other section, why not just make a "Videos" section where we can clump all kinds of music videos together. Then the ATLA AMV'ers will finally have somewhere to go, the LA Vidders will have somewhere else to go, and the AMVs can have the Annoucements Forum. Hell, it doesn't have to be massively advertised either. It could be a subforum of the General Video forum or a subforum in the AMV annoucements forum.

Because, frankly, Youtube looks more and more better with each passing day as my editing desires are spanning outside of just anime, and onto a wider variety of sources. Not saying Youtube could ever take the org's place in my heart to get a good critique and communitty, but I am saying that there are a lot of things I'd be more active in if the org had a place for me to go. Plus, LA and non-anime music videos can bring about unique and creative ways of editing with sources that AMV'ers could really learn from.

Plus, doesn't anime cons usually cater to these types of things? I know Amo-Chan had a LA video win at a con, and I ALWAYS see ATLA videos winning all over the place at the lesser known cons. Only the big name cons seem to really make a difference and/or stink over it. xD

I know AWA's Video Art Track allows any source material, but the only other convention to show live action videos that I know of is Vividcon, which is specifically targeted at the vidding community.

hmm
I don't think it would hurt the site to have a LAMV section.
I'm not talking about just posting them in the donators forum but
having an actual section specifically for this.
Its worked for other sites.

For example, Cosplay.com is obviously dedicated to the creation, discussion, and general enjoyment of cosplay outfits.
just like this site is dedicated to amvs and is also a very large community just like this one.
On their forum, there is a section called "Non-Cosplay Forums" and has sections for discussing
stuff like Video Games, Artwork and stuff.
Why couldn't this site have a "Non AMV" section near the bottom of the forum where other this like
Live Action vids, Games, Artwork (I know having sections for discussing those other things were suggested in the pass too and they could all be under that forum) and other stuff can be discussed at?

Sections on the forum, just like the VCA section can be added and removed without much trouble
so if for some reason the section does not work out, it can be easily removed
and everything will be back to the way it was.
If there are people willing to help mod the area, it could work out.
It never hurts to try something new and it could actually be something good for the communtiy.

*sigh* If only this could happen...

I have seen forums like that and I know that these parts produce about half of stuff whole other subforums do (and honestly, these forums have quite big flow as of right now). There are also people in them who don't care about community and just post there not attributing to the site, which is something the mods don't want, it seems.

What is your defense against these (I know this sounds like attack, so just want to say it isn't - just asking ;x )?

We can't stop that from happening, even with AMVs. I think we take what we can get as far as those new people who DO stay, and cut out losses for the ones who just use us to drop their videos in once in awhile. If anything, if they're good, at least these people will provide us with some entertainment.

A-kon also allows just about any source as long as you enter it into the "anime inspired contest". I've entered Disney to that contest in the past - the director told me he would have allowed me to enter it into the amv contest, but after seeing the initial audience reaction (they laughed - right before they all fell silent) he said I made the right choice. This contest pretty similar to the VAT at AWA and people can enter original video, LAMVs, Anime videos using non-music sources, VGMVs, etc.

As for the actual AMV contest(s) they don't even allow video games, or trailers, and people who enter VGMVs or trailers get their videos moved to the anime inspired contest.
