Masking Email Addresses

Postby CArnesen » Thu Jan 30, 2003 2:57 pm

Hey Phade, I would like to see a feature added to where we have a valid email address listed for administration purposes, but then be able to enter a "spam-free" address on the member page.

One interesting thing that Phorum does is to encode email addresses like this:

mailto:@hotmail.com

(that translates to "mailto:@hotmail.com" -- I just removed the account info)

Perhaps if that was implemented here? I'm not sure if spam harvesters have caught onto this technique, however.

Hey CArnesen,

Seems that the forum creators have already thought of that. If you are not logged into the forum, the email address is never displayed, therefore, spam harvesters cannot get anything from this forum.

Now if the spam harvesters bots figure out how to sign up for the forum, log in, and then go for it, then we would be in trouble. ;-)
