I really want to delete my videos

Postby Vershiris » Sat Nov 14, 2009 6:20 pm

Bassically, all my videos on the org (all indirect downloads to boobtube) are really old, and theres only one I like, it has concept and a idea I executed. All the others is the same old random action horribly edited videos from my past. I requested my videos to be deleted (apart from one) and after reading the rules I thought that my issue might fall into the rule of not being able to delete videos just because you dont like them. And so I lied and sent a message on all of them saying "This video is a beta which I will upload the the full version in the future. I did not read all of the sites rules about this before uploading, but now I have, I would like to delete this". The requests got denied with the message "The video is not uploaded to the server. Since the video catalog is meant to list every anime music video ever created, we would like to keep the entry. You may remove or change the video links at will however, and you may upload a finalized version of this video to the LOCAL server at any time."

All I really want to do is start fresh with the org where I can upload videos that have meaning, concept and edited to the best of my ability, but my account is clogged up with my old YT videos that I would just like to forget about, besides no-one will want to search for them or see them. So please can someone help me delete my old videos so I can start uploading AMV's I actually like?

Entries of completed videos will not be deleted. Doesn't mean you need to offer links of any kind. Just remove the links yourself.

Also:

And so I lied

That's not the best way to get the admin team to be gracious.

I know, and I'm really sorry for lying but I thought the admins would just ignore my request. I honestly am desperate to just get these videos out of the way and start fresh.

Just remove the links. Noone will see them from there on. Many people have done that before, and when videos can't be seen, I don't think you need to worry about anything like "reputation". Besides, the number of hits on each of your indirect links had been rather low. For better or worse, not many people had actually found your old, indirectly-linked videos via the .org in the first place.

As far as removing local content, we have decided to be a bit more lenient lately. Personally, I understand that people may not want to keep some of their work publically available. However, the .org's stated goal is to at least catalogue all videos. So as far as we are able to do it, we would like to keep entries for the videos in the database. I don't see a change in this policy for some time.

Again, I'm not sure why you are so concerned. All that most people will see is titles, basic descriptions and lists of sources for your videos. Perhaps if someone recognizes them from having seen these before, the only consequence for you would be that they might ask you something about them. Otherwise trust me, I am yet to hear of old, unavailable videos being a problem for anyone.

FYI, I handled the delete requests in your case. If there is anything I can help clear up for you, let me know. However it's not up to me to change site policy (nor would I agree to remove entries under any other provision). I do encourage people to discuss the policy on keeping entries and videos, and how the .org should operate in this regard. This is obviously important feedback for the site administration.

Well, they are quite a PITA to get if you'd like to actually watch them, since the vault is no more...

Since I cant actually remove then from my profile I might as well upload them. Having the videos there for no actual reason is worse then having them with download links. Its just a shame that I cant actually remove them like I wanted.

Actually it's quite easy to remove direct and indirect links, if that would suffice...
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... videos.php
From there, click on the name of the video you want to remove links from.
Click on step4:LINKS
Check the links and click delete.
Click continue.
Done.

I just don't see why removing the info, though.

Perhaps embarrassment at the source combination or concept?

Hang in a minute, If I create a single video featuring the videos I have on the org I don't want, will an admin proceed with my request to remove the single AMV's from the site?

I'm not a mod and have never been involved with the administration here, but I'm pretty sure that that's not how it works. Plenty of people list their MEP tracks singly as well as the collab entry for the whole project, and regardless, this doesn't change the fact that the video as described was released at one point, and may be floating around out there somewhere -- cutting an entry that describes it would pretty much directly contravene the cataloguing purpose of this site.

The easiest and most straightforward thing to do in your situation is probably to delete the links to the Tube as mirko describes, delete the videos from your channel there, and replace the video info on the videos you want disappeared with something like the following: "This is a crap video that I made before I really knew what I was doing. It was only ever released on boochsack, and has been removed from there as well. If you've seen it somewhere, please bear in mind that it doesn't necessarily bear any resemblance to where I am currently as a video editor."

Surely though the reason for people having seperate mep parts and the full mep is because they have not requested the single mep part to be deleted like I will with the seperate videos.
