Suggestion for studios

Postby Kariudo » Sat Jun 06, 2009 11:59 pm

As things are right now, studios aren't much more than just a name, and I think that's a shame.
Sure, we can search for videos by studio...but you have to know the studio name before you can do that. Personally, I can probably count the studios I know on two hands (and I suspect the same is true for most regulars).

What do you guys think about having a Studio page, similar to a member's main page to make studios more visible/tangible?
The studio page would tell you who is currently in the studio, studio profile, studio logo (in place of the member photo), listing of videos listed as released by said studio, studio creation date (if such information is kept), etc...

Sure, you could just make a site for the studio that does that, but this is about enhancing the org (and visibility/tangibility of studios on the org itself)

I've actually thought of that too. It'd be pretty cool. I'm thinking that on every member page, the studio section will link to the studio page. Features on the studio page could include the newest uploads of the studio and a preview of the newest video.

It'd be a bit redundant for the 10900/11000 studios that are just one person, but for the < 1% that are anything more than a name to release under that isn't your screen name i'd suppose it might be worth it.

Studios are for chumps :amv:

Cool idea though. Not sure how practical it would be.

Maybe set some criteria based on number of videos released, number of members, number of forum posts or some combination thereof to determine what studios are active enough to have a studio page?

To do it effectively you would need to set it up much like Guilds are in online games. You have to have so many members and then you need certain members to be officers and such. Because if you want to give the ability to edit the studio page then you need to have someone authorized to do it.

Basically, if a studio wants a studio page it'd need so many members, say at least 4, and 1 person in charge. The person in charge would then fill out a form with the other user names and the name of the studio, which would then verify everything and after a mod OK's it, create the necessary tables and what not in the database to set it all up.

It is an interesting idea, and perhaps a little easier to work with then having off site websites and forums for these studios. But I doubt it would really replace the ones that are already in place.

Sounds like a neat ideal as long as the solo editor studios can play too

Uhm... considering how not everyone is able to pull of their own studio website that *is* a cool thing. Having it like a guild as nate said would be cool, but that'd be sort of complex under certain aspects, as the whole studio system would need to be reworked. However, if someone doesn't have the main role for the studio, anyone could join, much like it works now... which wouldn't allow for a very precise way to index studios and studio-members.
