Legal status of String Quartet Tribute to Evanescence?

Post by jhfong » Fri Apr 07, 2006 5:26 pm

Given that the org isn't allowed to host videos using songs by artists distributed by Wind-up Records, including Evanescence, what about the String Quartet Tribute to Evanescence? Because it was released by Vitamin Records, does that make it okay to use songs from this album and upload them to the Donut?

"A Step in Another Direction" is currently the only AMV ever to have used String Quartet Tribute to Evanescence, but because the video also includes the original Evanescence song, it was removed. Would this also apply to videos that use only the string quartet version?

I don't think it would apply.

Since the string quartet versions are covers, they are fine. I remember this being asked before a while back (kind of in a different way, though). As far as I know as long as the original music produced by Wind Up isn't in the video it is ok.
