Gallery is a bunch of avatars the admin(Phade) has setup to be available for people to choose from. Phade didn't set the feature up, probably since people out there have better ideas for what they want to use for a avatar then he does.

The gallery consists of system avatars Phade would have to dump in his hard drive. By not diong so it saves space and bandwith for the board and even still people can use whatever avatar they like without having to bother Phade by e-mailing him a slew of little jpegs and gifs.

I like the fact that there's no gallery. It's like saying to people, "If you want an avatar, go find/make one!"

On one forum I go to, there's a gallery, and like 30% of the members use the same 3 or 4 Trigun avatars :P
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

Oh. I thought the Avatar Gallery was your own personal collection of Avatars.

That would actually be helpful for people who switch their Avatars often. Of course, if the Gallery was used like that, you'd probably have to have a collection of Off-Site Avatars only, to save space on the Admin's hard drives.

If it was your own personal collection of Avatars, it would be a cool idea to have some kind of automatic daily Avatar-cycle thing that would change your Avatar everyday.

Well, anyways, that's why I was so interested in it and had to ask. Cause I thought it would supposed to be your own collection of Avatars.

Thanks for the answers! ^_^

Or you could just use Klinky's method if you want to mess with the source code for a while.

Technically a Gallery could SAVE space rather then use more. Since each member is allowed to store a 6KB avatar off of the site anyways. If you limited them to choosing from a set of 50 or so, then that would be wayy less then what's being used now. You would also have the added benefit of these avatars being on their local browser cache. So it would most likely save bandwidth and space, unless he put a ungodly amount of avatars in there.

Phade didn't do this since he loves us all very much

Image Crazy image there, klinky! Image

------------------

Of course, considering that there are over 39000+ members here, having only 50 or so Avatars to choose from would make for some really repetitive post viewing. Which we're all glad it's not like that, right?

Even if there was 1000 Avatars in the Gallery, that still wouldn't be enough. Wow, it's kinda insane to think that Phade maybe has about 39000+ Avatars on his PC now just because of us.
Could you imagine having to look through all of them to find a specific one? Talk about Image

I forgot about the Off-Site Avatars. So, that would still make for some diversity in the Avatars, but most of the people here don't use that method anyways.
