A 'Source' database?

Postby Reverend Hammer » Fri Aug 29, 2003 10:47 pm

FurryCurry and I we're talking earlier this evening about possible issues with certain series on DVD and how well IVTC works with them. He mentioned that there were some issues with Evangelion, GTO, X the movie, etc. And with each series there are different ways to fix problems that crop up. So why not create a database where people can submit the problem they had and how they fixed it? Break it down by series, media (DVD/VHS/digisub :shudder:), and possibly episode. If someone runs into an issue that they came up with a work-around for, they can submit a list of what tools they're using, and the solution to the database. This way if someone has a similar occurence, they can look it up rather than possibly bringing up a question that has been answered many times in the various forums.

Now whether something like this might be outside of the scope of a-m-v.org, I don't know. But FurryCurry thought it was an interesting enough idea to be brought up here. Any comments?

The same idea occured to me today, also. A database of DVDs and possible glitches and fixes. Perhaps have photos, too, of real and bootleg copies, so people know what's real and what's not.

Of course, since I contribute little to nothing of value to the scene, I didn't feel it was worth mentioning  .

I suppose even a sticky thread could be useful for this purpose, if not a whole database.

The Reverend had taken the idea a couple steps further than I expected, though. I was just thinking of DVD footage when we were talking about it.

DVD would be a place to start, though. Make a list of DVDs that suck for some reason, and post suggestions on methods to fix said whacked footage as best possible.

Actually that's real easy to figure out. It's going to have two of three things:

1) be put out by a company you've never heard of (Anime Cartoon, etc.)

2) will be region 0

3) will have Chinese and English subtitles

Of course, since I contribute little to nothing of value to the scene, I didn't feel it was worth mentioning  .

I myself very rarely visit, and post even less. But like I said earlier, Furry thought it should be brought up, and so I did. Maybe someone will come along and say, "Hey, I like that idea!" and run with it. I'd do it myself, but I'm terrible at finishing projects and/or taking care of them. And I'm pretty sure Furry is quite busy as it is. ;)

Yeah, but how many people know that?

That should be stuck onto a FAQ. I kinda consider it outside of the idea I was thinking of.

Hopefully more people will see this during the weekend... I'd like to know what other people think.

Ah, thank you. I thought I had seen something around here that talked about it. Just couldn't remember where it was.

I'm surprised no one though of this before.... Or at least said anything about it. It would be a very good idea. The picture references are good too. If you did create it, you'd be off to a good start, with some of the tuts that have been written already (IE: klinkys 2-pass XviD encode). Then just hire forum searchers to look though then General Video section for more... Stuff.
