A Local Downloading Question...

Postby Yukina_Raven » Sat Aug 23, 2003 9:09 pm

This may be a stupid question, but...I would like it answered, if possible. It's about downloading the AMV's. Okay, here's my question: What's it mean when you try to download, a local download, a video and it tells you you can't because it's too soon since your last download? Is this just an error with my computer or do I have to wait a certain length of time before I can download another video? Just asking...sorry if it's a stupid question. :?

Well first off if you are new to the site then you can't download local amv's until after a two week waiting period.
Second I've got that message a couple of times and it was usually when the original download didn't start up and I had to restart it. I believe there is a time limit between downloads but it's not really all that long.

There's a 60 second stall between downloads to prevent multiple connections by download accellerators. Wait a minute, then try again.

If you're new and you've donated, you won't have the 2 week waiting periond, but if you haven't then you can't get the local vids now - like Warpwind said.

Also, just in case, if you have donated and you have trouble retrying the download after the 60 second wait, try clearing your cookies - ever so often a little glitch will keep you from downloading the same vid even if you wait for hours. But that doesn't happen too often.

I am having this same problem...
I HAVE Pledged (and paid)
I am not using a Download accelerator
and I have definately been waiting the 60 seconds between downloads (even though not one download has worked)

and yet still every time I try to Download a local AMV, instead of getting sent the video I get sent a .php file that says I have to wait between downloads.
This is really irritating that I can't get the AMVs even though I have given this site money

Noveus: could you give some info on how you are trying to download the files, what program is downloading them, what steps you are taking to download, etc.

Clear out your cookies, relog in, try again. You might be having a cookie problem, the site may be reading it in, and determining that those 60 seconds haven't passed yet.

Ah, thank you all so much for your suggestions, but...it still won't work. :( I deleted my cookies and everything...and I've been a memeber of the site for a few months now, so I no longer need to wait two weeks. But still...I can't download local AMVs. What's going on? Any more suggestions...? Please help... T_T

Are you using your Yukina_Raven account? If so, you need to wait two weeks still, since that account has only been active for three days.

Aren't the forum accounts and the org accounts the same thing?

I thought they were and if they are you've only been here a little while according to your join date.

Do the downloads start up immediately or do you have to wait for the link to appear? If you have to wait for the link just wait about 60 seconds longer before clicking to make sure it doesn't confuse the downloads.

Are they the same? o_0 I don't think they are because I was asked to sign in on the forums when I had already been signed onto the site for months. I dunno...maybe I did somthing wrong. Anyway, the downloads DO start up immediately, but then all if dowloads is some text message that says 'Error: You are trying to download this vidoe too soon after your last download attempt' when, in fact, I haven't downloaded anything in days. And, if I click on the link instead, it says the same thing, even after waiting.

Go to 'Member Main' and hit the 'my profile' link. What is the join date it lists under that? It *should* be the same as the one listed under your avatar there - in which case your 2 wks aren't up.

If by chance it's a different date, are you using internet explorer when you try to download the links? If so, you go to the vid description, click the green 'local' link and the file should pop up asking if you want to play or save - hit save and it should begin downloading the vid. The only time you'd get a text document is if you right click the green local link instead of hitting it (it saves the other page that pops up - not the file).
