Local Download problem

Postby Ogretoe » Thu Apr 24, 2003 7:20 am

Ok, here is my problem.

When I download a 'Local' mpeg file, everything works just fine and it lets me save to disk.

But when I try to download a 'Local' Avi file, it automatically transfers me to a Windows media player error page with a streaming player in the side bar, which does not do anything of course.. It is like it wanted to stream the file instead of letting me save to disk.

Any suggestions on how I can fix this problem? btw I know it is the the files fault, cause I have asked others, and they can download the same files I am just fine.

Actually I've been trying to solve this problem.

It's got something to do with the way windows, internet explorer and media player have .avi files associated.

It's something to do with MIME settings that tells it to open it in media player. The only problem is I couldn't find a webpage that gave me a definitive solution to fix the problem as it seems related to particular versions of different things.

What versions of windows, IE and media player are you using?

You know what? I just went to the Windows media player site, and saw there was a 9 series of the media player.. so I upgraded to that and now everything works fine!

Thanks for your effort, and for giving me something to check.
