a-m-v.org Convention

Postby SephirothJenova » Wed Jul 24, 2002 11:01 pm

It's just a proposal, and not required or anything, but I think that a-m-v.org should have a yearly convention just to show off AMVs and talk around. It could be hosted in one big theater hall, where the AMVs could be shown on the big screen. It wouldn't have to be this year, but could be in years to come too.

good idea.

A couple of questions.

If this occurred where would it take place. One city every year or whatever. or would it change locations every year?

seeing how some of us couldn't make it to a convention located at the east/west coast

I was thinking that it would be more of a vote with a bunch of the major cities in the United States, including Philadelphia, New York, Washington, Atlanta, Chicago, St. Louis, Denver, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Dallas, Houston, etc. That's a lotta cities, but anyway. I want to mention that it would be exclusively a-m-v.org.

It's a good idea but where, budget and setting a con up are all very tricky things to put together and it takes a few years to do so. a-m-v.org being non profit would make this exceedingly difficult to gather the funds every year to produce such a con.

I'm sure that people will put money up for it. I mean, people are putting up $20 a month for hosting for GD, when they really only have to put up $1 a month. Plus we could get sponsors like ADV, because they make a lot of anime DVDs and we use a lot of them. The hardest part would be getting through all of the copyright laws and such.

Humm...that sounds like it would be an awsome idea...but the money for it could be a problem...

However if something like this gets off the ground, I'd certainly help with it ^^

Or the location could be changed each year (like the olympics and other similar events)

True, but there are like 2 people who live in the netherlands and a gazillion who live in the USA, seems kind of inefficient, non?

Interesting idea, but I can tell you right away, it costs $1000-3000 to use a hotel as a convention center. We would need a place that would have the capacity for a big screen and such so a hotel or con center would be required. That is not even including money for individual hotel rooms for the workers or con attendees.
The way most cons put back is through registration and dealers. You'd have to have both of those. I don't think dealers would be interested in coming and paying if you were limiting the crowd down to only people here.

But if you go and win a mutli state lottery or something and can't find anything else to spend it all on, I'm sure we wouldn't mind if you sponsored an annual a-m-v.org convention. :D

Yeah... something like this would be great but extremely hard to do. Sure I'd put up some money for it. Once I get money. And since our members are really quite spread out, I believe that it would have to change location each year. I'd love to have it in Chicago cuz then I could make it every year but I only know of, like, two other people that live near there.

And exclusive to a-m-v.org? That'd be cool because we could meet each other. But how many people would really go? I'd definately go assuming I had the transportation and money but some people I'm sure don't really care about going to cons in the first place.

I hate to face the reality of it but... I don't think it's likely to happen.

Well there could be different tpe of dealers then dealers on a regular con. You could include PC dealers since most people could be looking to upgrade there PC and there could be several anime dealers (source footage ^_^). There's potential...

Figure out a way to tap the rabid DBZ fanboy crowd. You'll get more money than you know what to do with.
