12 kilobytes, 100x100: Reasonable request!

150 kilobytes, god only knows what huge resolution: NO! HELL NO!

I'm on cable, and even I shudder at the thought of having to download upwards of 2 megabytes of unique avatars per page (and loading from cache isn't much faster). I hate to think of what the 56kers would have to go through.

And I doubt Phade would want to host 150 kilobyte (or even 12 kilobyte) avatars, so people would either 1. host them off their websites, if they have hosting, and waste their bandwidth (their choice, though) or 2. Use Geocities, hit the transfer limit quickly, and have a red X, thus negating the benefit of having huge avatars anyhow.

Hey,

The limits are to keep page load time to a reasonable rate. If you are unable to make something unique within the current limits then you aren't being very creative. ;-)

I think it should still be bumped up to like 10 or 12 tho, There are some avatars Ive tryed to use and they were the right size but the file was too big by like .3 kilobytes or something. Besides 4 more bytes on the avatar size isnt gonna kill anybodys bandwith is it? :?

Besides, you can't just make an allowance for a few bytes here and there. Because once it's a few bytes, then what's wrong with a few more? And so on and so forth.

0.3 kilobytes = 300 bytes, by the way. That's more than a few.

Heads up & greetings everbody  :D

I'm new at this place, and I'm pleased 2 meet You outthere behind the screens. Recently I joined Rice-Box forum and they allowe 100x100pix, 12k avatars (I think it is - but don't hang me allright). It's an ok size I think, and really shouldent be any problem here either. I would liked to use the same avatar here as I do at R-B, but it got all mashed up when I tried to resize it...so I had to find another one for this place. Bugger.
