i know i haven't donated and i hope i will soon but i think the real problem with people not donating is that not many people are aware of the donations.
yes, it asks you to donate when you search and when you download but the way i see it, the site should have more talk and info about how much it relise and donations.
i think not allowing people to download amvs wouldn't be a good solution because i think the site's basic idea (and correct me if im wrong) is to promote AMVs and anime in general.
I see the problem derobert raised in advertisements but i think you'll have to compremise on that.
other then that i think phade's idea is really great and should work.
companys will probably want to advertise anime and video related products anyway since those are things people here will actually be interested in.
if i were looking for a place to advertise anime, wouldn't such a big fansite be my first piriority?
this site has always been a good source for me for amvs and also a way of making friends watch anime too.
i hope it'll stay free and download friendly:)
must donate soon...

Oh, so you're suggesting that Phade make us pay for AMVs? I'd like to see him defend that in court.

Unfortunately, that's not true, as is fairly easily found on the North Carolina Secretary of State website. If Org were actually a non-profit, yeah, it'd be much clearer.

SQ: Who said anything about a service? The .org could make it's own just like other sites (Such as Megatokyo, Bob and George and Mac-Hall to name a few) and target their space toward anime companies and the like. And you attitude towards the Donut is very negitive.

BasharOfTheAges: Phade never said using Google ads. Besides, they're too much of a target for fraud.

Otherwise, I'd say Phade goes for the idea.

How it should work: Companies pay for impressions (AKA, how many times it shows up) or time depending on how it's decided and from there the ads show up on the non-donator's download page using the "Target=Blank" part so it pops up.

I've said my peace.

I have mixed feelings on Phade's idea. (I started typing my last post before I saw it.) It seems to be a combination of several other ideas. It is certainly the easiest and most low impact way of generating revenue. That is it will have no real affect on the org culture. It also gets contributions from the people causing the problem, lechers.

My reservationshave to do with making the org seem more commercial (please limit the ads to just that page) and with the possibility of increased legal attention.

The idea certainly bears consideration and some reaserch into the logistics.

Oh, so we aren't actually registered as a non-profit? I didn't know that. I do see that we have 100,000 shares of common stock though. How about selling some of that for money :p

How about some adds? I'm sure they wouldn't mess up the layout of the site too much. And why not, if every little bit helps? To encourage donations, you could also have 2 seperate layouts. One with ads, one without. The one with ads being for people who haven't donated. This site has done a good job with theire ads and it looks like that's the only thing that keeps theire picture downloading service free. I'm sure people wouldn't mind them if it meant keeping the site up, and having fast download speeds.
Try it trash! I'll return the pain a thousand times over!

You can choose to make a monthly pledge if you want, or you can do a one time donation (whenever you want)

Oh! so for example if I donated money whenever,
I don't have to worry about donating every month if I don't make a pledge?
