New Moderator Drop Box

Postby Phade » Thu Oct 17, 2002 10:55 am

Hey All,

There is now a Moderator Drop Box for messages to moderators about members who break the rules and such. The messages will be periodically removed by moderators as the messages are dealt with. The question comes as to what should the permissions on that forum be? Here are the options:

* Write, read, and reply - this is the same as any other forum
* Write, read, but not reply - this means that members can see new problems, read about them, but not reply in the forum to the message (sorta like a see-through drop box)
* Write, but not read or reply - this means that people can post messages, but nobody who is not a moderator could see the message, not even the member who posted the message (sorta like a black hole drop box)
* Write, Read Title, but not Read Message or Reply (psudo-black box)

They each have their advantages and disadvantages. What do you think it should be?

Phade.

well, seeing as you have the posting to the MOD area shut down while the polls are still open I would just like to say here,

Good luck to anyone who is sharing their time with the members of this org so that the forums can remain a usefull and productive place.
We appreciate your efforts and the fact that you take time out from your day to help moderate the forum.

I like this one. Although there is the chance people could take that as an opportunity to whine about someone else in particular, it gives other people the chance to go in there and check out what is not acceptable before they may do it themselves.

True, but who's going to say "This member is posting hate threads!" when they know that that person can see them telling on them?

People dont like being a snitch when everyone else knows they are.

I thought about that, but I assumed people would behave themselves better now. Maybe I am wrong for assuming. My second vote would be for the ability to read the subject header...given names should be left out anyway.

You'd see who posted it.

Admittedly you could post something with a title that didnt really say much about the problem if you wanted to, so that's ok.

I'd just be concerned that people wouldn't post in fear of being labeled a taddle-tail - especially if it's about someone who might take it personally.

That's just the way I see it.

I think it would be best if you had the option to chose one of the four when you make the topic, if thats possible. If that not possible i say go for regular posting.

That would be neat! ^_^

An option to choose any of the four.

I'm guessing that because "having the ability to choose when posting" isn't an option in the poll, it isn't doable.

I'm only for write in all honesty. If you are talking about the members then I think this is less problematic as the people being mentioned and brought up won't know about it and start ranting and complaining and unecessary flame wars won't begin in places they shouldn't be.

I think you should be able to read, write, and reply because someone should be able to defend themselves a little bit before the MODs take action.

If this were a major concern, then the Mods can merely address the person before they took action. I do not think it is necessary for the accused to have a chance to face their accusers here.

I actually like the pseudo-black box idea. If the poster wants people to know what they are griping to the mods about they can give a relatively detailed title, if they don't then they can be vague.
