2005 VCA Qualifying Videos

Post by Phade » Tue Jan 18, 2005 11:24 am

Hey All,

The <a href="/members/amvvca/2005/qualify.php">list of qualified videos</a> for the 2005 AnimeMusicVideos.org Viewers Choice Awards is now available. There are an impressive number of qualified videos this year. Here's a comparison with previous VCA participations:

Code: Select all

YEAR Videos Increase Creators Increase
2002 1049 - 249 -
2003 1505 456 480 231
2004 2452 947 784 304
2005 4760 2308 1243 459

As you can see, this year's video participation is nearly that of all previous years combined! With the increased number of active members, this is definitely proving to be the biggest VCA yet!

The contest will still have the two rounds of nominations before the final vote since knocking the list down to 5 would mean cutting it down to nearly 1/1000th of the qualifying videos. That's too big of a crunch to be fair, IMHO. Nominations will still be the most important part of the VCA process since the final vote will be limited to those videos chosen.

First round nominations start tomorrow. You have lots of downloading to do... ;-)

Argh, the list is so long that my browser (Opera 7.54)'s choking on it... it'll completely load the page, but then it'll only let me see the first page with no scroll bar... :(

I take that back... it's <i>not</i> loading the page completely.

By scrolling down while it was in the process of loading, I could see that it stopped at SilverMoonPrincess's videos.

And <i>then</i>, a few seconds later, it redrew itself to show only the first page and a greyed-out scroll bar, then the scroll bar disappeared completely.

Hey Scintilla,

How long does it take to load the page? What happens when you hit the refresh button?

I believe it took about 2-3 minutes, and hitting Reload didn't help.

Ach, that's not very helpful, is it?...

And by that I mean that the same thing happened again, not that nothing happened.

Hey,

I've fixed the page so that the page loads faster in different browsers. Seems that the rendering engines of some browsers have difficulty calculating the width of a 5000 line unordered list tag. The page now loads quickly in all browsers that I tested (Firefox, Mozilla, IE, Opera).

However, Opera (though loading quickly now) seems to think that the page doesn't need a scroll bar when it's done loading. This is definitely an Opera issue since all other browsers don't display this issue and the code itself is not attempting to manipulate the behavior of scroll bars. Opera users will have to use a different browser to view this page.
