Site on New Server and Host

Postby Phade » Sun Sep 29, 2002 5:42 pm

Hey All,

The site has now moved to a new server with a new hosting company. This new one is a dedicated box (instead of a shared one like the old host), has 40G of drive space (up from 1G) so logs can now be turned on (horay for performance monitoring!), 512M ram (up from 128M), and a P4 processor (instead of PIII)?

So, you guys notice a performance difference with the new setup?

Yes to both. It is a new computer that I am using to run the site with a 40g drive that I can do whatever I want with it.

Wouldn't this be front page worthy

It looks like DNS is still working the kinks out :\

ATTBI seems to point to the correct server, then stops and points to the old server, then back to the new server. Does that about every hour. It gets annoying so I just added the new ip to my HOSTS file :\

Hey klinky,

Yeah, DNS takes 24-48 hours. It should be fine at the end of today.

Yeah, it works fine, except for some bugs, which i think you must've worked out by now.

Anyway, looks like it'll work like a charm. But what about Op: Gd? When is that gonna get going?

Hey Lyrs,

I'm currently in a state of massive flux, being literally homeless and unemployed. This massive distraction has really hapered GD development. I will feel much more at ease and much less guilty working on it once I find steady employment. In the mean time, I am still working on some of the technical details (such as dynamic ftp user ID and uploading permissions)? I'll keep you posted as things develop.

In the mean time, I am planning on opening a Cafepress store for things like T-shirts and such. Look out for an announcement soon about that.

Hey Phade,

That's great! You do know you have a fan base? And i think the guys here wouldn't mind helping out much which the store and all.

Anyway, when the store opens up, and when you get the store merchandise online, I look it up and buy something, over the web if possible. Why! You could make some money from that logo of yours.

Avatar Music Video

I wouldn't mind buying one or two shirts with that on there and then I'll take a few cups and dishes. Maybe, I'll even buy an official Avatar Music Video badge from teh store too!

Good luck on your entreprise.

I was doing a lot of searches over the weekend and the response times were fine. I can't say if they're faster than before the switch.

Things are really weird tonight, though. The forum seems to be ok, but when I tried to go back to my main page, it loaded part of the page over and over and over.?.until I linked elsewhere. Also, some database pages just come up blank (white)? Source-view shows a few lines and no more.

Hey Phade, forsome reason I can't view the main site on IE, I haev no problems with netscape (which is what I'm using now) but IE it loads for half a second and says "done" even though it has pulled up nothing. In soem casses I'm still looking at the page I was just at.

Hey,

It's fixed now. We were trying to get some extra performance out of the new machine, but the page not coming up is not what we had in mind. It should be working again now.
