Here is the complete, as far as I know it, list of .org machine names.

Ancient history:
ranma - I think this is what Phade called the first .org server, when it set in the machine room at Gearboxx. Ran IIS on a Celeron. c. 2001.
unknown - At some point, we moved to shared hosting. Don't remember what the machine was called.

Less ancient history:
data - The name of the web/db server when we first got dedicated hosting at rackshack. Might of had another name as well, not sure.
pompom - The name of the first local download server. Was also called storage, but that name is just an alias (and got moved to Nago at some point)

Both of the above two are gone, and the names don't count (because we didn't assign them). They were replaced by these two:

Yuri - the current web/db server. Yuri is from Dirty Pair Flash.
Nago - the current local download server. almost full. Nago is from Mononoke Hime.

In addition, there is one more machine:

Kuno - the video backup server. Stores an off-site copy of the videos on Nago. Kuno is from Ranma 1/2.

And, the two new machines:

"Nago #2": Second local download server, since Nago is getting full. Just delivered to my house today. (The one this thread is about)
"Kuno #2": Second video backup server. Ordered, but not yet delivered.

Hope that helps.

The use of numerals is disheartening! You guys should be able to think of something better...like say a relatives' name or a character with a personal relationship.

I'm very dispointed. :?

That's the point of this thread: to get better names for the server. Currently, "Nago #2" will be known as "Gaia". Next up is a new name for "Kuno #2" (the backup mirror of Gaia).

Well if that one will be Gaia, I'd recommend naming the backup "Terra" just to be relevant... unless you want only 4-letter names. 8-)

Yeah, but Yggdrasil is a reference to Ah! My Goddess.

Yggdrassil is also a gigantic tree in Norse mythology that connects all the realms. It means "horse of Yggr," so you could abbreviate to Yggr. Although, technically, Yggr is one of Odin's names... I think. I've never seen AMG, so that's what I thought when I heard it.
Kusoyaro: We don't need a leader. We need to SHUT UP. Make what you want to make, don't make you what you don't want to make. If neither of those applies to you, then you need to SHUT UP MORE.

That's exactly the idea. It's the Yggdrasil of Norse mythology, the system that supports the world. Thus, in that setting, it's a giant magical computer.

Yeah, I got that. That's why I suggested the abbreviation. And I just checked on the meaning of the word Yggr, and it also means "dreadful."

OK, um, maybe not that. Perhaps "Yggy", as derobert suggested earlier.

Hey,

Is there a character / term that means "backup for the world" or "servant to the world" or "right-hand man to the world"? With Gaia meaning the Earth, this last machine is the backup for that one.

Of course, Kuno's and Nago's names don't really have any real relationship...

Aes Sedai comes to mind. From the Wheel of Time, it means 'Servant of All'.
