Anime Episode Discussion section

Postby paizuri » Tue Jan 20, 2004 10:29 am

There has been a new section added called "Anime Episode Discussion". Its purpose is for the discussion of specific anime episodes where people can talk about and speculate on the events in certain episodes and how they may affect future episodes or how they fit into the grand scheme of things so far, etc.

We've had posts like this in the past in General Anime and I don't think I'm alone in saying that I would like to see more like them. I've posted rules which are specific to that forum and may not necessarily apply to the other forums here. These rules are subject to change as needed, but I think they're fairly straightforward and simple.

Have fun!

We still lack a 'Stupid Anime Fantasy' forum for such questions as 'What Sailor Senshi's panties would you wear on your head?' or 'Which Dragon Ball Z character would you rather experiment homosexuality with?' and ectera.

This is why I fail to see why )v(ajin Koji is not a moderator. He should be Mod 007 or something.

this is just my opinion here, but.....really now......is this needed....i mean...at all?

i dont go to the general anime section to much, but with something like a "general" anime section.......why do we need to make another place for.....general anime topics?

this is why i think that the org forum should really be more like the cgtalk forums, if nothing else, a forum within a forum section could be added, so that when you click on general anime, it takes you to a list of forums under the general anime tag. even so, this forum as a whole shouldent be so much off topic in every forum. general AMV and general Anime are just that, "General" discution forums. if so many people are have so much trouble desiding where a topic should go, maybe a revision of the forums discriptions is whats really needed.

The good thing about about having a forum where you talk about episodes is that it will contains only topics about the actual anime itself and not topics that are generally relatated to the big bad world of anime.

So if I wanted to start a discussion on ROD TV I might say

subject: ROD TV episode 3

post: I started ROD TV and I must admit I really liked episode 1... but what the hell is up with episodes 2 and 3? The characters are mostly annoying rather than amusing and nothing is really happening. I hope the show picks up later one as it would be a shame to have a mediocre series after such a cool setup with the way the OVA was handled.

...and that would lead on to discussion of how ROD TV gets better later and that I should perservere :P (plus as people know what ep I've seen up to they wont post too many spoilers)

I like the new forum because it means I can go in there and know that each post is going to be talking about actual shows and things happening in these shows, which is a nice change from "This show rocks/ Yes it does/ No it doesnt" threads.

My 2p.

Although this is a valid substratum of the General Anime threads, I don't know if it is necessary on this site. Such areas see much traffic on sites attached to fansubbers, where discussing the latest fansub releases constitutes a lot of traffic.

I can see that these kinds of threads are god and useful and what have you, but I can't see them attracting enough attention to get past the inherent limitations inherent in the subject matter and hence become a viable forum rather than just another thing to scroll past.

Only time will tell, but I felt that I wanted to share my views on this.

Yes... How could interest in anime and anime episodes be relevant to an anime music video site?

I think you may have missed the point I was trying to make- indeed, rereading my post, it may not be very clear. I was trying to say how the forum has a very limited number of articles of discussion under its jurisdiction, and as such may be too slow and quiet to do much. I at this point feel that the threads of this type could do just fine within General Anime.

I have nothing against a forum subsection with any kind of content being added to this site on grounds of content alone; it's just the narrowness of this one that concerns me.

Again, time will tell.

I have to agree with Savia, the scope of what you can really discuss leads me to beleive that the new forum may well turn out to be rather boring...

Since the rules/section description thread is locked, I'll ask here. ^_^;;

What's to stop this section from turning into a 'write essays about every episode of your favorite anime and study it in much more depth than anyone alive cares to read' forum? I know DanielWang made quite a few similar posts - talking about what a certain anime means (and making the sort of comparisons you see in classroom essays) and people not only got outrageously bored and angry, but they flamed him to high heavens for, and I misquote "taking anime too seriously."

My question:

How much are we allowed to talk about a certain episode (or various episodes in a certain anime), and how far is too far - at what point is it more than anyone wants to see in the forum? Are we going to stop interesting posts because they're too 'in-depth'? Or are we going to allow threads that could very well bore members to death if they happen to read them?

I'm verbose (as if you couldn't tell), so I'm quite serious here. ^_^ I know I can't wait to jump in there and talk about anime on a 'specific episode' basis. But I know very well that it will bore people out of their minds if I were to do so. Are boring threads going to be deleted? Or will posts like "you're thinking too much about it - it's just a cartoon" be discouraged and/or ignored?

[/optimistic curiousity]
